i have had radar detectors since ive been driving, im not saying in any way that im an expert on this subject just because i have 17 years of experience with a limited number of radar detectors. this escort 9500 is my first high end detector, and i can say this it has not gotten me out of any more tickets then any other low to mid priced unit, and i doubt the v1 would either. if the police have the radar on constantly a cheap detector will notify you, if their radar is in auto on mode and there are no other cars on the road to take the hit then most likely you are getting pulled over. the only practical difference is quality and features, i know this escort is going to last many many years, but is automatic features such as city highway, volume control and display dimmer really worth the $350 more it costs then a decent mid priced unit i dont know.

[QUOTE=gbreeE90;8096924]You are wrong, you need to join radardetector.net. Read some stuff on there, i am not just talking about x band doors. No one will ever agree what is best, just like JB3 and Procede. But my vote goes to V1.[/Q
im speaking from experience not what i read on the web i said the doors that ive pulled up to not all automatic doors you need to get off your computer and experience life a little more. |

Ok, thats just you. You dont know everyone else's experience, or what I have or have not experienced. Dont assume someone hasn't experienced something when you do not know them.

V1 ftmfw! I need my arrows, the save my ass more times than not (something the Passport does not offer). I've owned it for 5 + years and have never got a ticket, but good situational awareness is your best radar dectector!

i'm only 16, i dont think i'm experienced enough to be speeding on freeways. I'm not too serious about getting a radar detector, i just thought it would be interesting knowing where cops are. thanks anyways |

If you run one, leave it on ALL the time so you get to know all the hot spots. Even when you are obeying the limits, it's nice to know where the traps are.

Nowhere in my post did I state one detector was better than another. I merely stated that I personally own a 9500ix. I did my own research and chose it, but I am no authority to say whether it is better or worse than a V1. Nor do I trust most of what I read on the internet.

And a V1 don't offer red light camera alerts or GPS. You are from northern california. You should understand how important it is to have red light camera alert around here. The new law that passed requires you to stop 6 seconds on red before you can legally turn. I know at least 20 people who have gotten a ticket from turning on red even if they waited 5 seconds. It cost $500 by the way and they tend to hide them next to trees or behind you so it isn't that obvious to spot. |

Yep, all over California. I was clueless until my friends were all getting nailed by the traffic cameras recording them turning. Even if you waited for 5 seconds you will still the ticket. They will send you a link of you turning and has a timer to prove that you didn't wait long enough.
Kind of a PITA if you ask me. A complete stop is more than enough. No need for the 6 sec BS. |

I was also wondering about this in So Cal. Great... Just another reason to love this state and its monetarily driven law enforcement. Laws here are created, and enforced, solely on the dollar amount they can generate. This bullshit has nothing to do with public safety or any other reason. Edit.. Sorry to kind of jack the thread but I had to get that dam rant out. Last edited by scrufy; 10-03-2010 at 12:59 AM.. |

This thread isn't an argument on which is better, he just simply wanted to know which one are we using. I prefer the arrows because I can know if the cop is up ahead or behind me, which is very valuable information to know. The latest GPS Nav software I have lists which lights have cameras, there are not too many around here so it's not a big deal, so I don't see it as a function I would use often.

You might not need the red light camera feature but many people find it useful. But don't worry, you will need it sooner or later. The recording camera is spreading like wild fire here in the Bay Area and Sacramento. For $500 per ticket I am pretty sure every city will adopt the recording cameras soon. Basically every intersection in Millbrae has one of these recording cameras. Other features that the 9500ix has are accurate speed display (at 70 MPH on speed you are actually ~67 MPH), lock out false alarms such as annoying automatic doors, mark locations for speed traps or speed cameras, speed sensibility (uses GPS to automatically measure your speed to determine it's sensibility), display the speed once a radar has been detected so you don't have to look down to your speedo to see how fast you are going, and of course the case if you transport your radar a lot. |
