The reason BMW won't issue a recall is because it is a costly part. About $1100-1300 w/o labor is what I've heard.

if we have everyone owned 335i sedan or coupe, we get together and petition to Department of Transportation. The reason, the car is unsafe to drive in extreme condition. If everyone go write a letter to the congressmen about this issue, i m pretty sure we can get it recall n fix their mistake..

today is 33 days since the car died. after fighting with bmwna and the dealership they finally called to tell me they got the pump and the car might be available to pick up today =)

I believe I was one of the first person to report fuel pump issues back in Oct of 2006. I got my replacement in November 2006 after 2-3 weeks. Over the last couple months, I've been noticing slightly longer lags before engine starts. I am planning to look up the part number they used to replace the original pump.

Any suggestions on how to present my current lag issue to the dealership? I can totally see them saying, "oh, thats normal" The lags now aren't anywhere nearly as bad as before.

I got the information below from my CA.

"Although I was certain of the answer, I just double-checked with our Master Technician and he confirmed what we discussed: BMW has been using a new pump and they are not just putting the same old pumps in as replacements. There is not any official evidence I can provide to you, because those documents are not released to the public, and that includes us as employees! I think some of the rumors about the same old pumps being used may be because the new pumps have the same part number as the old pump. That is because the part number is only a reflection of how a part is used and where it goes, so they would not give the new pump a different part number if it performs the same function and especially if the old one is no longer being used.

I wish I had more information I could give you, but all I can say is that I have sold several 335i Cp's this year and have yet to hear of one issue. I think that the forums may be hyping this up to be bigger than it is. This problem has been solved. Please let me know what you would like to do with your order."

Ok..just talked to service advisor and looks like they used 320... May be I am just paranoid but crank time seems higher than normal when cold. We are talking may be 2-3 secs but seems odd cause my POS ford takes 1 sec to start

My 335i Coupe is being built today. I wonder what pump is going to be used in mine. Has anyone heard of june or july built failures? Or have we not heard of any failures from june or july because they just have not gotten many miles on them yet. My main concern with all this is I drive about 3k miles a month and the majority of it is in rural areas of the pacific northwest. Lots of passes to climb, be fun to break down in the mountains with no cell reception and the nearest dealer 3-4 hours away:mad:

Thats what mine did. 2 to 3 second cold start. Then normal starts the rest of the day. It did it since new. Then at 4200 miles dead pump.
