Hi!
Hey everyone! I thought I'd introduce myself.... My name's Andy and I ordered a 320d SE last week for delivery at Xmas.... Crimson Red, with Particulate filter, sports steering wheel, lumbar support, Logic 7, Comfort Access, Xenons & Auto Headlights/Wipers..... I think that's it. Not the fastest car (I'm coming from a 03 330ci Sport), but its designed to be better on the motorway (and not make me bankrupt!!). Just thought I'd say hi and thanks for the advice I've had from reading this over the past few months!

Hi
Hi Andy -
great colour, very bold! Good choice of car, reckon you'll surprise yourself in the 320d - especially in the fuel efficiency stakes from your E46 Good choice of spec as well, although not 100% sure on the upgraded hi-fi. Good luck with the new car and all the best. |

Yea, my Dad has a 320d too, and that's why I thought of getting it. Before I drove his, there's no way I would have considered a diesel. And thanks for all the well wishes. If anybody is interested, I'll put some photos on when I get it at Xmas.

Welcome dude. I think you'll enjoy the 320d, especially with the options you've chosen.

Welcome to the site.
I'm on my 2nd 320d. Absolutely fantastic on the motorway - plenty of torque for overtaking and so quiet at cruising speeds. Great spec too. Bet you can't wait.

Thanks for all the kind words. I have HK on my 330, so I thought it only reasonable that I got the DSP hifi. I do spend a lot of time on the motorway, so I reckoned it would be a laugh. I forgot that I'm getting high beam assist.... probably a gimmick, but its only £95!

Welcome to the group. I drove JonMad's 320d back from UK2 meet and was impressed. Look forward to the pics...
Also, logic7 is pretty pricey isn't it? Is it actually worth the cash? The sound in my old E46 318i and my current E46 coupe is not amazing but will do for in the car...

Yea, Logic 7 is £820 I think. I drove the 320d originally at the launch at Rockingham in March 05, and I was amazed by it. It feels almost as quick as my current car for about 80% of the time!

Hey Spacer, I was at Rockingham too in March 2005 - I was sold on the 330i having ragged it round the track! An awesome day!

Beauforty: It was so good....I felt a bit robbed getting the 320d for both the road and track at Rockingham, but it was an eye-opener for me! I certainly didn't regret it once I'd driven it!

I demanded a 330i on the track which meant I had to stand aside until one became free. I drove a 325i on the skid pan which was fun and a 320i on the convoy drive on public roads around Rockingham but it was too slow and unresponsive. Never got to drive the 320d, but I know its a great car having met so many owners at the UK meets.

I drove a 320i and a 320d back to back on launch day, over a 10 mile course.
I was underwhelmed by the 320i and felt it was a little breathless.

I think the 320i would have faired better with the previous 6-cylinder 2.2 litre engine that was bolted to the previous E46 320i - or the de-tuned 2.5 litre fitted to the E60 523i
The latter is already the case for the regions that have 323i E90s |

Yea, I think rather than have a small petrol, I'd take the diesel any day now!

Spacer, are you going for Sports Suspension? I highly recommend you go for this option. Its not expensive and the car looks and handles so much better. The ride is surprisingly good too. Its the only option missing from your list that I really think you should go for.
