Audi 3.0 TFSI

I'm beginning to hear very good things about the Audi 3.0 TFSI.

I like the look of an A6/S4 with remap and pulley upgrade making 450bhp+ with no other mods. The A6 3.0T's are getting pretty cheap as they have depreciated heavily by comparison to the TDI's.

Here is a video of a remapped (only) S4 sticking with a brand new RS4:

I saw this video a couple of weeks back. I was VERY impressed!

In a couple of years once kids come along, I think this is most likely the estate I would go for.

I was watching this the other day. Really enjoyed it.

For the price, a remapped one of these would offer very good performance for the buck!

I like the thought of having the torque with no lag too, it being a supercharger n'all.

The S4 was the only other car that I would have bought instead of the 335i. But at the time prices were just a bit too high compared to the 335i.

Both are great. I suspect a similar video with a 335i vs a M3 would turn up the same results, absolute performance bargains .

Tuned 335i vs tuned S4 would be a nice race to see.

I think the S4 would have it stage 1. Stage 2 335i maybe.

I fancy a change next time round and like the look of the S4 with its 7 Speed DSG.

That engine appears to be a cracking unit. Decent power, loads of potential for tuning yet still returns reasonable mpg and low emissions. much like the BMW engine in the 35i in fact. I just wished they gave the S4 a bit more visual drama, it just looks soo boring.

They always seem to tone these cars down too much. My ideal car would be an S4 with the 3.0 TSFI engine but which looked liked an RS4 with the flared arches etc. The same with the 335i, would love it to look like the M3 but keep the N54 engine. Is it just me?

Isn't it just the case that with emissions targets and diesels having had turbos for ages (turbos are reliable these days), any petrol turbo (FI) has loads of tuning ability?

Litigation culture ensures that the engine is designed to withstand loads well beyond its factory limits!

I'd say that the MRC Car has more than just a larger Pulley to produce a whine like that.

3.38 Secs 0-60 sounds fun though!

I personally prefer understated.

You would barely tell my e90 apart from a 318d from the front.. Amusing when you play with 911s and R8s etc.

Not sure, I would imagine the exhaust would take a fair chunk of that, although their stage 2 now is without the exhaust (since you still get 480ps without) so £1495. Stage 1 is £750.

Really?

Standard they average 30mpg - similar to a 335i..

I suppose tuning a supercharger would impact fuel economy more...

Well, mines the Cab so 200kg heavier, but after doing 4000 miles in 5 weeks in mine I can tell you my average is 21.5. And thats a lot of motorway miles at 80-90. MY 335i did 26mpg on the same journeys even though i drove a bit quicker.

I find that hard to believe if it is supercharged. It seems not even Audi know whether it is supercharged or turbo-charged, they use both terms on their website. Consensus says it is supercharged though and 21mpg on the motorways agrees too!

I cant help thinking the Audi would not be such as good drivers car as the beemer..... but depends what is important to you, cheap power - or a good all round drivers car.

Its Supercharged.

The fact that they've called it TFSI is undoubtedly just Audi marketting wanting to keep to a naming convention.
