Short of the front lip (which looks better then the aero lip IMO), spoiler, wheels and naf pin striping what is different?

I did notice the front bumper didn't have reflectors. Is that normal for all euro E92? I like that.

Its probably a Euro Spec E92 that don't have the reflectors.

It's a pity that the US market does not understand Alpina. Alpina has been making great cars since the 1600. The company focuses on filling a performance niches not provided by BMW. They provide BMW level engineering to enhance BMW cars.

We "get" Alpina, except we don't get their styling cues. Pinstripes are not in fashion anymore in America. Biturbo also sounds really really lame. Although, the chick driving the car is looks hot.

You guys in the States will never get this get, and I mean understand it not receive it.

Most BMWs are sold through finance and through company polices, for a company car we get taxed a benifit in kind tax.

To buy a 335i coupe with the same spec as the Alpina D3 Bi-Turbo you are looking at £680 a month in BIK Tax, that is the extra tax you pay each month for having a company car, in comparison the Alpina D3 is around £300 a month.

If you were taxed an extra $760 a month for owning the 335i over the D3, so around $1350 a month for the 335i, you would also consider the D3.

Consumption is another factor.
The D3 will return pretty much 50mpg, the 335i will return around 25mpg.
We are paying $11.70 a gallon at the moment (that is a UK gallon so around $9.50 a US gallon) so for someone doing 20k miles a year that is another saving of $300 a month.

Running a car in the States costs peanuts compared with just about everywhere else on this planet. The D3 makes perfect sense.

Also when you see the Alpina in silver with the classic wheels etc. in teh flesh it looks terrific.
The stripes are almost a bit tongue in cheek, but on the right colour they do work.

You also have to drive one, the ride is just sublime, they use the Bilstein M-Sport strut with the SE springs from a 335xd car and oversized tyres like on the M3. The grip, handling and comfort is unreal compared with the equivilent BMW.

And then there is exclusivity, only 100 D3 BT coming to the UK.

It is over priced as you can't get a discount, so you can buy a 335d se for pretty much the same price, but as a quick everyday car (which it is with all its torque as 0-60mph times mean nothing here) it is a bit special and worth the money I reckon.

The pinstripes are indeed from the 80's, and I agree they do not flow well with the lines of the newer BMWs. That being said, the pinstripes are optional. I am a bit biased since I grew up in the 80's and am aware of all the great cars Alpina has created. One of the greatest cars Alpina built is the original '89 B10 Biturbo, a 180mph sedan that would take down many exotics of the time. I cannot begin to explain how awesome this car was when it came out. That being said, the "BiTurbo" name is quite sacred among old school BMW enthusiasts.

Exactly. The diesel market is huge in Europe and Asia, where gasoline is expensive. The D3 provides 50mpg and 150mph from a 4 cylinder! If BMW is known for providing an excellent compromise of handling and comfort, Alpina is known for outdoing BMW in that department.

I agree the "Alpina Classic" wheels look better then the "Alpina Dynamic" star wheels. A small piece of trivia: Alpina wheels always have had 20 spokes, the star wheels are actually 5 sets of 4 spokes, which equal 20.

Alpina do tend to use soem very funny colours and combos for their show cars, they are the luxury equivilent of an M car really.

They also do the B3 which is an upgraded 335i....

If I could get the Alpina D3 BiTurbo tomorrow with the radial style "classic" Alpina wheels, I would drop my 323i immediately. Take note, BMW Canada! Or an M-Sport 323d would definately suit my fancy.

that's pretty short sighted... it will only be slower than the 330i off the line. If you were to, say, have to make a pass on the highway, the Alpina D3 would own a 330i. It makes over 300 ft-lbs of torque.
