RANT: Stupid speed traps!!!!

Got caught doing 68 in a 60 on I-5 yesterday. I need to get a hold of Vlad's lawyer :-D

wish they would pull people over that were doing 90+ in their minivans instead of me going a lil over the limit.

All they want is money. Seems like cops just let go with those most serious riskless driver, but not us with a bit of speed over the speed limit.

By Mike Lindblom

Seattle Times staff reporter

Law-enforcement agencies will launch a spring crackdown Friday called "Slow Down or Pay Up," which officials call the first statewide anti-speeding patrol.

The next four weekends, officers will lurk along roadways that have had high numbers of deaths during the past five years. A media blitz and police-overtime pay will be funded by a federal grant of $500,000 to $600,000, said Lowell Porter, director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission.

Speeding is about equal to drunken driving as a cause of death. But while drunken driving has declined, and seat-belt use is at around 97 percent, drivers haven't let up on the gas pedal, Porter said.

"It's a much more complex behavior, a much more complex psychology than drunk driving or wearing a seat belt," he said.

People rationalize that everybody goes a few miles over the limit, but a difference of 10 mph can double the death risk, because of longer stopping distances and greater collision forces, he said.

From 2004 to 2008, there were 2,941 traffic deaths in the state, of which 1,166 fatalities, or 40 percent, were attributed primarily to high speed, according to Fatality Analysis Reporting System data.

The spring patrols will be mainly in the afternoons and early evenings on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, when statistics show drivers speed the most, said Porter. The program runs through May 1.

Fines for speeding citations range from $22 to $177, a state schedule says.

I got pulled over last year in Bellevue going 35mpg at a 30mph zone. And the police officer even asked me wether I have a job or not and what kind job is it. Then he gave me a higher fines on my ticket

Cops are giving out way more tickets here in SoCal. Cities are broke so what a way to get some extra money. All I can say is slow down. I know it was not much over but it was enough for them to pull you over.

They're broke over here too, but of course, this is about saving lives not money. Yeah, saving lives, that's got to be it.

Washington state’s budget deficit is currently $2.8 billion.

The speed trap is everywhere. Every Saturday morning on I-405 northbound around 70th exit. One Saturday I saw 7 troopers pulled over drivers at the same time!

Just got ticket in Fife for doing "Califronia roll" for turing right on red light, $124 infraction but no point. All my co-workers wifes got at least one similar ticket in Lynwood. This is not for running red lights folks just roll right.

BTW, be carefull going to Oregon, on HW26 they use camera for speed, not sure what the margin, if you think red-light camera is bad...

I have been both lucky and unlucky enough to not run into any cops since the campaign has started.
Unlucky because I don't get to test my v1 and LI
Lucky doesn't need any explanation I guess.

tag team traffic stops are pretty easy to beat. Assuming one was operating the speed measuring device and the other did the stop, each trooper has to file an affidavit to support the notice of infraction. If one affidavit doesn't support the other, case dismissed.
