Question E92 335i engine bore question...

My main question is that how big a bore size do you think i can make my I6 N54 and what kind of horsepower you think i can get out of it? (not including twin turbo, intercooler, etc.)...

Second question, what other parts would have to change along with it (i.e. software change/upgrade, performance radiator, etc.)?

The 2007+ 335i (coupe) is my favorite car built so far [could go for an M3, but i would do the same thing with it but pay more initially] just what direction i can take with my soon-to-be show car...
My original plan was to get a V10 M5 Engine and bore THAT (somewhere around 620hp after modification) and put the twin turbo and everything else on that.

^__^ got lucky at the Casino and am looking for some serious power

I would say keep the cylinder wall thickness and turn up the boost for more power, maybe new internals and and lower compression, head work etc

its gonna be my show car (kept in the garage mostly) and in order to make it popular, you have to find something unique... my version was to change the engine bore... just what liter (size) i could move up to is the question

Drop a Viper V10 in that puppy then add a big belt-driven blower sticking out of the hood ala Mad Max. That should give you some bragging rights.

I think if its going to be a show car and you want to make it unique then just boring it out and upgrading the turbos and software isn't very unique. Pretty much everyone has done that already minus the boring, but I'm sure some already have/plan to do it. If it were me I would take an engine that isn't supposed to be in there and put it in there(m5 V10 etc.), widebody it, crazy paint scheme. That IMO makes it unique. Changing the bore size doesn't. Just my .02.

Oh and to answer your question, I have no idea. Contact VAC motorsports or HPF they do engine building/stroking, they might be able to give you a little info.

AC Schnitzer and Dinan have already done the M5 swap with an M3... (628bhp if i remember correctly)...
I've got a bit of sponsor money if i can come up with a solid plan to give them (my sponsors) so that's why i'm brainstorming...

The max bore will depend on the cylinder wall thickness. A safe bet would be 30 to 60 over. But like you said its a show car so I doubt anyone will notice an engine bore specially the kind of people that will be looking at your car. A swapped motor would definitely stand out.

Now if you want to build a motor a BA motor and want to increase volume then bore it and possibly even stroke it(don't know if it is possible). Then you will want to upgrade all the internals to handle 20+ lbs of boost. In this case you will also need fully upgrade the cooling system, ie radiator, fmic, oil cooler, ect. DO NOT SKIMP ON THESE PARTS all you will end up with is a very large and expensive paper weight when you throw a rod or melt a piston.

Like the thought of the V10 M5 engine. There should be plenty of room in the engine bay. Sounds like the kind of mod that some of the folks in the UK may have published.

ls7? like... Corvette Z06 motor? O_o nice...

what about an LSX? too big? lol if i did that, i'd probably just buy the parts i want from an E92 chassis piece by piece

"LSX
At the 2006 SEMA show, GM Performance Parts introduced the LSX engine, an all-new cast-iron racing block based on the LS7 engine. It was designed with help from drag racing legend Warren Johnson. It offers displacements ranging from 364 cubic inches to 511 cubic inches (4.25 in (108 mm) Bore x 4.5 in (114.3 mm) Stroke) and is capable of withstanding 2,500 bhp (1,900 kW). This block incorporates two extra rows of head-bolt holes per bank for increased clamping capacity. The six bolt steel main caps are the same ones used on the LS7 engine. The engine debuted at the auto show in a customized 1969 Camaro owned by Reggie Jackson. The LSX will be available starting the second quarter of 2007, set to be available in authorized dealerships and retailers on March 31, 2007"

IMHO seems like a big waste for a show car. To each his own I suppose

it is a big waste, i was just off in imagination land there for a minute...

I just want to achieve 600bhp from a 335i really... which is why i was thinking increasing bore size... if i up to racing radiator, oil catch, etc, with bigger turbo's, i may be able to do just that...

what about weight distribution? you think if i throw some subs in the back it'll even things out a bit? (heavier, i know... )

MusclezMarinara, do you know if you can fit the 2010 335i (sedan) lights on the 2007 335i (sedan)?

i'm seriously thinking M5 motor though, it'll be a while though, i don't think H&R,Eibach, or Clear will just give me $25,000+ just for a motor... they like to advertise their suspension and tires... O_o that IS show business for ya though... you gotta buy the REAL goodies for yourself

just did some searching and currently, a used M5 motor (from a salvage) is $1,900 - $6,500... that's insanely cheap from what i was expecting... (eBay)

If this is pie-in-the-sky thinking time, then:

How about a tri-turbo setup?
It wouldn't necessarily be better than a twin or giant single setup, but you have to admit--how many tri-turbo cars have you ever seen, let alone on a BMW?

You could call it BMW Tri-Power.

that's actually a pretty cool idea; i would only have to force-fit one more turbo in the setup (which i could probably get one off of a salvaged car... should i go with dual intercoolers too then? or one large one to withstand all three?
