But agreed that for street it makes no sense!
I don't know about 5 seconds, but yes 400lbs is a lot and will make a significant difference.

Considering finding a pole position seat for my drivers seat and just removing the passenger seat and back seats for track days. Advantage would be that I could put 2 race tires in the front sitting on the floor where the seat used to be.

Anybody do this? Would result in maximum weight savings.

Pole position is like 17lbs, with mounting hardware i think its like 26; stock seats are like 65lbs. Remove both stock seats and add in pole position is minus 104lbs. Rear seat delete is minus 54lbs. So thats like 158lbs just in free seat work that I can put back in 1 hour after the event.

There's no reason anyone with hand tools can't install coilovers themselves. Corner weighting + alignment costs $200-250. Come on. Besides - do M3's come corner weighted from the factory on their progressive non adjustable springs?

M3 arms are bolt-on... subframe bushings are addressed above.

The FMIC and DP cost $800... so who is charging you $2200 for an install of these items?

I didn't forget them. You don't need them.

There is no available upgrade radiator! Link it or stop saying this!

M3 brakes have bigger rotors but similarly horrible calipers as 335's. Both can get away with stock calipers with good rotors/race pads, but both benefit greatly from BBK's. No difference here.

Steering ratio? Seriously? M3 sport seats are really no different than the sport seats in the 335.

We replaced the bushings that matter when we did subframe bushings and M3 control arms, or did you forget?

Oh I get it. You're one of those M3 > all people.

It has more hp, its lighter, lower cg, wider, fits bigger tires, more torque throughout the rev range, and cheaper parts/easier to make big power.

In which way is it not better?

You're just one of those silly M3 > all people, so you don't understand why people would want to work on a 335 or a 330i (like the OP). Now that we understand who and what you are, your comments make a lot more sense.

Good day sir.
Bump. This made me laugh haha. Good responses.

Anyone attempt composite rear window/rear side windows? Seems like an easy drop and not really a noticeable alteration. Saw a few cars with these types of mods and they dropped about 30lbs conservatively. Edit* Stupid autocorrect

My shop uses them fairly commonly on racecars, you would just need to get a special cleaner(plexus for example) and fasten it down properly

My roommate drives a Nissan 240sx. 2800lbs

Now, I drive a 6MT 335xi E90. 3800lbs. My brother has pretty much always beat me at everything (except anything technical but that's a whole nother story for a whole nother day), so I'm looking to drop some weight from my car.

Hopefully this thread will stand as a central place to find where to drop weight from our cars. I'm looking to drop at least 200 lbs while still "feeling" stock and being daily drivable....i.e. while keeping my girlfriend from killing me every time she gets in my car Maybe in a year or so I'll jump for nice racing seats reupholstered to match my Terra but that's a bit too deep for my pockets atm. So by daily drivable I mean keep all audio/nav components, A/C, etc.

I fully understand that this is sort of ridiculous so please do not flame me, if you don't have anything helpful to say relating to this issue please do not post. I also fully understand that our cars aren't necessarily designed to be light and aren't the greatest to start with if looking for light. I ALSO understand that weight isn't everything, but hell WHY NOT drop a few pounds right? I'm already on a diet

Here's what I have found so far, although I don't know of most of the exact weight savings numbers... I don't know if I will personally be able to get well....any of these before next season but if I can get an idea I might be able to scrap some together :-P

-Wheels/Non-RFT Tires (Unsprung): ~45lbs
-Lightweight Battery (Rear): ~40 lbs (stat by HP Autowerks)
-CF Hood (Front): ~30lbs
-CF Boot (Rear): ~15lbs
-Exhaust (Center): ~20lbs
-Removing rear seats (Rear): ?? (for track days...)
-Replacing front seats (Front): ~80lbs (stat by HP Autowerks)

SUGGESTIONS:
-Headers
-LTW Control Arms
-Interior Panelling
-FMIC
-Downpipes
-Intake

Anyone know of any other permanentish mods that dump weight without damaging daily drivability? Preferably the mods would be in the front to dampen that 53/47 or so split we have going.

Thanks,
Dave

UPDATE May 31, 2008: My car weighs in at 3740 with Kosei K1/Bridgestone RE01R
