why oh why
Why on earth did i settle on a 318d, okay its a lovely car sapphire metallic black, with cream leather , a lot of nice extras, only delivery mileage when i bought it in Feb 2012, but hell, you have to cane it to get any sort of pleasure out of it. The wife and myself both had to go back to London, but coming back at different times so we took both cars (hers Golf GTTDI) i said you go in front I will follow, well when we hit the M11 thats when she just took off and i had to give it some to stay up with her. Anyways silly rant over now checking out remapp sites, also looking around for something a lot more exciting than a 318D Exclusive E90 LCI (2011)

I know how you feel! I have a 318d Business Edition, and it was painful before! I've had mine re-mapped, and it makes a world of difference! But, have you considered a tuning box? Untraceable, plugs in in 5 mins and gives results not far from a remap but gives you the flexibility!
I have a Spider Box for sale in the classified section, which is probably one of the most advanced boxes. http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=685679 It was originally for a 320d 177, but has been on an X1 18d (same engine as our 318d) for a while and provided the same results. It is fully adaptable to your driving style. Worth a look |

I guess 318 may be slightly cheaper than 320.

Below co/2 thresholds therefore better BIK tax and a more sensible company car choice.
Nothing to do with driveability. It's a car to suit a market requirement and does so very well. But no way I could live with something so underpowered..

Was lookin at a 318d myself but was told to go for the 320 at least, they have more tunning potential as its a bigger turbo. I thought my 320 was slow before it was remapped

The 318d is a no thrills work horse. To be honest I quite liked it.
0-60 in around 9 seconds???(I don't know how accurate I am here) but thats still fast enough for some owners. If you are in the market for a car on a tight budget and for what ever reason the 320d is out of reach I think you could do a lot worse. Get your car down to evolve, see what they can do with it and enjoy, from experience with 2.0 d engines they respond very well to a remap. |

Funny really.
Its all relative. I have the 118D and a tuned 335i. As Mega rightly says the 318DES is far cheaper to buy/run/tax/insure/BIK than a 320D. Its 147BHP. My long term 2yr combined average is 60mpg. On a run its 70mpg plus. I recall thinking our old 1998 A3T was nippy at 150BHP. Remember those days? And you should see the stats on the new 118D, and even the petrols. Incredible... I was going to box the 318D to see if the economy could be streetched further too. Let me know how you get on!

I have a 318d and just purchased a Greenbox from DTUK, trust me once it's boxed you'll love it! Andrew the owner of DTUK is a helpful fella and is always on hand to answer any questions/queries you have, if you live local to him up in Durham you could always pop into DTUK HQ and try out a box for yourself.
