What exactly are we looking at to validate this? I have a 328xi w/ sport package (staggered 18s), and believe they are the exact same sizes as the 335i. Possibly the 17s off a 328 may not clear the brakes on a 335?

yes lots of times the smaller rims on the 328's wont fit over the 335i brakes. a lot of 335s use 18's for winters cuz they are sure to clear the brakes

I know this is old but I just had to point out its because your rears should be 245/35/18 not 245/40/18 your rears are not only wider than the front but have more sidewall because the 2nd number is a ratio of the width

You can always :

1) get the tread shaved on your new tire
2) run lower air pressure in the new tire
