Why can't we OBDI remap$@?&?!!*?!?!
So, I was the guy posting a potential, but failed, obdii remap from DMS. I was told it is due to some protection in new BMWs.
Why is it then, that Dinan can remap the N55 engine through OBDII? not fair... http://***********.com/content.php?2...355-horsepower |

This is what I miss the most from my previous GM was ability to remap the computer, no piggy backs or those items, change the actual computer. Shift points, fueling, afr's. I know your running a Diesel but still so much fun doing it that way.

BMW has encrypted their ECU and trust me Lenny from RENNtech wants to get the codes so that he can start using the OBDII instead of bench flashing!!!

They are both encrypted which is why no other tuner (besided DINAN) is offering a flash via the OBDII in the later MY US spec e9x's LCI's. DINAN has a relationship/agreement with BMW which is why they have access and others do not, it is also why certain BMW dealers are authorized DINAN dealers.

After being in the RENNtech shop and watching Lenny pull a DME and then hard wire it to benched flashed, I felt more comfortable having the DME flashed this way rather than OBII.

You will not have an emissions issue with a flash and you may want to double check that your diesel is not excluded from emissions testing like it is here MD. In either case your car will pass with flying colors so long as all of your emissions control systems are in place.

To compare what they have available vs us. Theres nothing in the factory perameters you cant adjust your self, fueling, boost, transmission shift speeds, line pressures, the list is endless. If you dont understand why thats a powerful tool we can use then I guess you shouldnt have read this either.

Wish I could! Man adding turbos or superchargers, changing injectors, shift timing, all of it was soooooo nice. Then Bam you get tune 1-7. Not complaining about JB4 I love it. Wish I could change when the car shifts, and start working on fueling.

Not going to lie... It is kind of funny being the bastard child of the family. 335i's get pissed about our torque ratios, M3's get mad if we ever beat them (always someone shifting improperly) , everyone hating on "finding a diesel station", and no one wanting to give us the proper tune the car deserves...
One of my favorite conversations. Me: "Hey nice x5" Her: "yeah, it's a diesel so it is very powerful but good on gas for such a large truck" (ignored the gas comment) Me: "Yeah, I know, I have the same engine in my little 3 series" |

And Virginia does not exempt us. Because Virginia hates people with new expensive cars. You can have the worst emissions in the world if your car is an old POS, but if you have a new car and it is expensive, you are charges hundreds if not a thousand a year in "property taxes" NOTE: Diesel powered vehicles are not exempt from the emissions testing program requirements when they have: A model year newer than 1996, and A Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) less than 8,501 lbs., (if GVWR is not available, empty and gross weights will be used) and A registration that expires in July 2007 or later. |

Remaped 35d retains all the emission parameters of the stock file. No difference there. Get your car reflashed without worries.
