Not that much risk...OP is on terminal leave (meaning separating/retiring).

By the time any action were to be taken, OP would already be out of the service.

Anyways, was fun reading!

Just sent the OP an email to her gmail account for verification. I don't really like giving people a hard time but many of us have been burned in the past by fraudulent vendors.

After doing a quick search, the OP has several social networking profiles with personal information that can be used to verify her identification.

GLWS!

Well, like I said earlier, I searched online and found various profiles that the OP had on several forums/webpages. I was able to find a gmail account so I emailed it and sure enough, I received a reply from the OP confirming the sale.

@WingZeroX5, let us know if you happen to get a call from someone at Hanscom AFB regarding your behavior towards the OP.

I must say, this thread is priceless!

Yeah, I'm sticking my dick out on the block, not because for the sake of looking like a badass...really? Stuff like this actually happens and I've came across one recently a few months back:

When I was on the market looking for Honda 600RR, I came across something very similar to this. The only difference is that the scammer had a sad sob story in the beginning, very believeable and could've happened, but still raised many flags. The only thing that was blatantly obvious was that she wanted the money via google checkout and google will ship the bike.wtf? It was a 2007 white phoenix fairings and had like under 3k under the odo, "mint and flawless," all for $4k, shipping included. Too good to be true? You bet.

Funny thing was that I kept asking for the VIN on the bike and "she" wouldn't give it up, kept beating around the bushes and telling me how nice it is. Finally got the VIN after I threatened to walk away and found out it's already been listed on ebay and sold...

BLUF: you don't know what people are up to behind a keyboard. with the economy still in shits, people will do anything to make a few bucks, they will make a story sound so damn true, just know how to pick it out. And for something as sketchy as this, i just hope no one gets scammed.

BTW Colonel, with all due respect, if you are a Colonel, your linkedin page is incredibly fishy.

To be a DEPUTY SURGEON, don't you need some sort of medical degree? I only see a BA in journalism and MS in human resource management...
Based on your profile, your first assignment was in 1994. It takes an average of 16-20 years to be promoted to a Lt. Col (O-5), how in the world did you make it to a full bird Colonel? It takes minimum 20 years + time to pin on so at LEAST 21 years. THAT would put you in the year 2015-ish before you can even be selected.
Let us know if you get any backlash from the CO at Hanscom AFB. Just curious. Would make for a hell of a "Lesson's Learned"..LOL!

I'll forward this to my friend af Vandenberg AFB, he may be interested. If he is you could just meet him on base in housing for him to take a look at it.

That would be just fine; please just have him e-mail kgragido@hotmail.com to set up a meeting if he wants to see the car. Thanks so much!

Just a general question about selling "friends" cars. Why doesn't the owner of the car create an account an sell it themselves? Why do I see so many "selling for my friend" listings?

I also vote for best thread ever!

Great question, but I can only speak for myself within my experience. In this particular case my friend just finished a government contractor job which required a top secret clearance. She, like many other government friends of mine, leaves as small an Internet footprint as possible because she is extremely security-conscious. It is a gross understatement to say that she's uncomfortable with having these posts up with her e-mail address, but she very much wants to sell the car. So I sorta took over the car sale piece of her upcoming move. Hope that answers your question in this particular case!

Going forward, you should tell her to set up a gmail account. You don't have to give a backup email or any other contact info so it can be fairly anonymous.

Sorry but that sounds really lame. You guys sound clueless. First time to use the internet or sell a car?
