Curious, as nothing showed up when I searched. When trading in a car you own (so NOT a lease return), at a BMW dealer if you're buying a new car from them, have people found that if they did not have run flats on their car, the dealer would reduce the trade-in value of their car somewhat?
I would think they might, as they'd try to argue they need to put run flats back on it to be able to sell it as a used car off their lot? |

I'm sure they'll take it but I wouldn't be surprised if the SA low balled you on the trade-in value citing the lack of RFT's being a hit on value.

When I worked at a dealership here in Ohio I know our policy was that any car that came in had to have at least 80% tread left on the tires or we had to replace them before we could resell the car. Not sure if that was by law or if it was just a precaution they took to limit their liability, but it's a bargaining chip for you. If your appraisal comes back and they lowball you citing the lack of RFT's, point out that they will have to replace the tires regardless.

Basically you want to bring your car back to as stock as possible but no you don't have to have run flats. I traded my car in without run flats and some mods still on.

Thanks guys.
Yeah, it doesn't make sense for almost new tires (if they're already run flat) to be replaced - @ LI_Goalie. I didn't know about their rule of thumb for reselling a car, that they'd probably replace them if they're like more than a 1/4 used. Makes sense. In which case, yeah, it's a moot point for them to argue if the tires are half used, because even if they're run flats they'd have to replace them anyway. |

if you are trading your own car then you don't have to worry about what you have it on or not, as long as you don't allow them to low ball you for that. If you returning the lease, then man you better bring the car to almost new condition or they will start charging you arm and the leg for everything lol.

A lot of the time the dealership will replace tires depending on the condition. However to answer your question, no you do not need to put on run flats in order to sell the car to dealership.

No I could see a dealership pulling that move to save money, but it really makes no sense and I think it would be kinda low for a dealership to pull that. Tires get worn and I would put my money on it that most people do not install the same OEM tire after the initial set is worn.
That said, Im sure some sneaky dealership has used that line before |

As others have said, you don't have to on trade in, but do on a lease. If the dealer is going to decide to CPO the car, then they will put new run flats on it and throw the old ones away, regardless as to how much tread they have left. So if anything, if you just put new tires on the car and you like them... I.e some SP2's or something, I'd go buy the cheapest tire you can find, slap them on there, and keep your "old" ones for the new car.
