Service after 50K...

Service advisor informed me that oil change, urea top off, fuel filter, air filter would be approx $500 service... Lol
My girl is telling me I should just pay for the extended maintenance out to 100K.
Those that are doing your own services where are you going for parts?

IMO don't do it. I go to a respected Indy shop here in Miami and pay way less. BMW dealer service out of warranty is a gunless robbery.

I drive a lot and will probably be @ 100K within the next 2 years. I'm assuming that will be about 5-6 oil changes and probably a brake job within that time. A brake job alone could be well over $1,000... Seems worth it to avoid wasting my time doing it, and I always get a loaner whenever I drop it off; indie shops can't provide a loaner.

Well if it's worth it for you and will save you money in the long run then yeah get it . How much is it anyways to extend it? I Also like the courtesy loaners.

The extended maintenance plan is $2,500 and covers regular maintenance out to 100K.
There are also extended warranties which vary in price/time/mileage/ coverages etc. for me a person who drives a lot the "platinum" warranty out to 100K is around $3K.

Ok cool. IMO I still think it's not worth it but that's in my case(don't drive too many miles) but am sure it's worth it for you...

You'll get 4 services, which should be 2 fuel filter changes as well (I forgot if it's every other or every 3rd). I'm guessing the oil changes without the filter's are about $200. Let's say that would be $1400 worth of maintenance. Rotors are on average $100 ea. Pads would be about $75/set, and labor I would guess at BMW will be $100/axle. $750 total before taxes for a brake repair on all wheels. I don't know the price of the wear sensors though. This would make this service $2150 for 4 oil changes, 2 fuel filter changes, and a complete brake set. Florida tax I think is still 6.25% so this would be $2284. Still does not include the sensors.

Get the extended powertrain warranty but it's not worth your money in getting the extended "maintenance" warranty. Just save your money and find an indy shop that can get your car ready in a timely manner. It's not like it takes days to do an oil change or replace the brakes. I never cared for the loaners that the stealerships offer because they always gave me stripped-down 320i/328i plus I'd always have to plan a month ahead to even get one.

I have the extended maintenance. Having the front pads + rotors, brake fluid, rear pads done at 55k, I feel it almost already paid for itself. I will be sure to get new pads and rotors again at 99k.

I convinced them to do mine (front) at 49.9k . Rears were nowhere near due as they were already performed previously

i bought an extended maintnance plan til 100k for $1800, and since my car is CPO, i wont have to worry about anything until 100k.
If you have a garage and is savvy enough to do some work, and have a friend who is a mechanic, then extended maintnance is not for you, but alot of ppl don't have time, place and friends to take car of the maintnence on these cars.

I plan to do all of my maintenance when I am out of my original 4 yr warranty, but I like working on cars and can do oil changes and brake work in my garage and have a scissor lift. Tischer has the best price on oil change kits, $95 delivered to your door, get some DEF at walmart, pepboys, etc. Rotors and pads are a personal decision, I usually go with Turner Motor Sports for those, brembo and axxis pads on my past BMWs mainly. The only one I don't like to do is the fuel filter, so I will probably just take it to my indy BMW guy or the dealer depending on the quote.

But as others have said, if you like dropping your car off and getting a loaner and that dealer experience and don't have the time, go ahead and pay for the extended maintenance package (not to be confused with the extended warranty package). It will cost you more in the long run, but if that is what you want, go for it.

you can buy DEF for $12 at walmart for a 2.5 gallon jug. You can buy everything you need for a DIY oil change online for around $100. Air filter is trivial. The fuel filter.. I'm not sure but I DIY fuel filters on my F350 diesel and its easy as pie, so it cant be that bad. I know there's a DIY for fuel filters too. Or find an indy shop if you dont want to diy

http://www.rmeuropean.com/Part-Numbe..._8DF8FDD7.aspx

I went to realoem.com and looked up the 335D fuel filter P/N and google searched. This is one of the places that came up as a source. It says the manufacturer is Mann.

I asked my Indy if he could do this and he says no problem. He recommends that the new filter be filled with diesel to minimize air in system. TDI has told us that a BT cable can be used to activate the lifting pump in the tank to purge air from the system and not beat up on the high pressure injection pump. I'm about 900 miles from FINALLY getting dealer to change my fuel filter. I went for the 3rd oil change in September but they said the miles were 3200 short for the fuel filter. They only did an oil change.

Idparts.com has it too for even less then rmeuropean

Interesting. My light came on for what I thought was my second service and they did an air filter (intake silencer) and fuel filter, but did not do my second oil change yet, and that's at about 25K.

I know. Several other 335D owners told me they got their fuel filters changed at the 2nd oil change. I asked for this and was told to wait for #3 change. Then having to wait to get to close to 30k miles. If i knew this was going to happen I would have paid indy last year. I'm planning to get the filter changed anually from here on out. Th idpart site has several good deals including oil change kit for ~$68. I have 8 quarts of Mobil 5W-30 ESP that i got on a pep boys deal so I only need the filter. I'm doing in between changes on my own.
