I got quoted $2530+tax for the BMW extended 6yr/100k warranty. Based on what you guys have been saying, that seems like a decent price.

I have done xtended warranties in teh past and alway regretted it. For $3k to $4K (335i is MUCH more expensive than the 328i!) you would have to have somethign SERIOUSLY going wrong before you reach a break even point. There has been much across the usual consumer forums and automotive forums that these warranties are costing the consumer much more than they return in over 95% of the cases. With my HPFP beeing covered for 1 years and 10K miles I am not buying an xtended warranty ... my warranty will lapse this Sunday .. Sayonara!

Check with your state taxing authority and make sure the dealer is required to charge tax on extended warranty contracts / vehicle service contracts. In many states, these are not taxable, but the dealer finance managers who sell them play hardball, and tack it on anyway, figuring you don't know the difference.

I got a quote from a CA dealer who tried that with me, until I showed him a printout from the State web site that says they are NOT taxable...!

I got a price for the Ford ESP on my 2008 335i. 6 year/60,000 miles premium care for $1730 total. That gives me an extra 2 years and 30,000 miles so I am going with that. The BMW dealership works with them already so it should be smoother and it is not reimbursement or anything like that.

Thanks for the heads up. I've actually decided not to go with it. I've only had two things go wrong with the car since I bought it, the lifter ticking (which is a common problem) and just recently my trunk release broke. So I can't see myself spending $2500 for something that based on the history of my car I probably won't use a lot.

I just got quoted 3900 for 7yr/100k on a 2008 335i for platinum ... Was wondering if you guys have suggested dealers who I can call to get it at a lower price. As I see it doesn't matter if I live in MD and get warranty say from CA correct?

Thanks in advance

My service advisor here in Houston at Advantage Midtown claimed there was just a price increase and quoted me $4050 for a 7/70, after a supposed $300 discount for an 08 335i coupe.

Can anyone confirm this increase?

Extended Warranty

Hi guys,
My question is a little differant..I am purchasing new. I am not sure whether I should purchase the BMW extended warranty now or wait until my original is almost up. The Business Manager tells me that it could cost an extra $1000 then. Not to mention if all be part of my loan so I wouldnt have to shell out $3699 at once. I think the $1000 xtra is BS not to mention he hasnt really budged on the price. My wife thinks we should wait. The car is loaded so incase the iDrive breaks etc I want to be covered.

Can anyone tell me if he is BSing me?

thx!

I just purchased mine over the phone through BMW Tuscon for $3500 with no tax. I got the 7yr/100k platinum plan since I have iDrive. I've called at least 35 BMW dealerships over the course of the last month around the country and BMW Tuscon gave me the best price.

Its hard to tell since you did not mention which extended warranty you are trying to purchase out of the 20 or so available.

Thx for reply Slimmie - it's the 3 year 200,000 - so total of 7 years or 200,000. There is a 7 year 160,000kms but that is only $100 less.

Is it Powertrain, GOLD, or Platinum?

Does Platinum cover the Idrive and other electronics? One of the reasons I went with the ESP was because it did cover that and the Nav system.

yes, that's the only difference between Platinum and Gold -- iDrive, phone interface, nav, and radio included in platinum. Other electronics are covered by both.

I just purchased the BMW powertrain plus warranty for my 335i. My car has been out of factory warranty since 1/11. I went for the 3 years/36K miles for $2000. Purchased at New Country BMW, I thought that was a reasonable deal. Powertrain plus is the only option you can get after your factory warranty runs out, but I dont care because it covers the important stuff.

There are others that you can get if your original ran out. The Ford ESP is one. Not trying to push the ford plan, I mention it because it is the one i got and have the info on my desk. Dont know about the others
