BMW 335d Fuel Injector Problems
Is there anyone out there that had their fuel injectors replaced on their 335d around 50k miles?
Any issues with your replaced fuel injectors? My fuel injectors are being replaced at 47k miles. Don't know if I should keep the car or sell it. Don't want any more problems down the road when the car has around 100k miles on it. |

I have over 200,000km on a couple of common-rail diesels and have yet to hear about "big" (which I take to mean 'statistically significant') injector problems. Some might say that the VW CR HPFP problems with the Bosch CP4.1 rail pump eating itself is big...that's running about a 0.13% failure rate...may not sound bad, but that's a complete replacement of a fuel system for 1.3 cars per 1000 -- not THAT would be what I call a "BIG" failure rate. Is there anyone here who has had a fuel injector failure on their 335d? Regards D.

CT
Had Injector 1 replaced at 71k per BMW goodwill. 84k now and no major issues. SA told me that there was significant carbon deposition and they "cleaned" the manifold, so we will see where this goes... I'm racking up about 8k miles per month right now, so things should happen fast!! |

335dM, if there were enough room somewhere along the fuel supply system, yes, I would definitely consider a 10/2µm filter-set like a Racor, but there is not much room under the hood or underside on these cars. I stick with mainstream truck stops for the most part when fuelling up.
CT, what has your fuel supply been like over the 50,000mi? (Brands? Locations?) Cheers D.

I purchased the car CPO about 4 weeks ago. I had the car for about 2 weeks and the other 2 weeks it's been at the dealership, where they are working on replacing the injectors, cylinder head, and intake valves.
I had only filled up the tank once so far, but in CT, all I can find is diesel with cetane rating of 40. So the previous owner probably also filled up with the same cetane rating since the car was originally purchased in CT and serviced in CT. Do you know which gas stations have better diesel? |

How many miles on your 335d?
I was told by the BMW dealership not to add any cetane boost or diesel additive. But I noticed that you do. Does it make a difference? My 335d is still under warranty, will BMW honor the warranty if I start using the additives and cetane boost? Or is it better to wait until the warranty expires and then start using the additives? Here in Connecticut, our diesel fuel has a cetane rating of 40. Can't find anything betterlike 45 or 50. Last edited by CT_335D; 11-19-2012 at 12:40 PM.. |

My car is at the dealership now; cyl 4 injector misfire. The SA is trying to figure out the root cause for this. All injectors were already replaced twice on the car, so BMW is trying to get to the bottom of this. It will be interesting to see what they find out. So far the car has been with them for 3 days.

ULSDF is the main problem in my opinion and research. Their has been a lot of premature injector failure do to the lack of lubricity in the fuel. In my duramax, I add a half quart of 2 stroke motor oil every tank. Optilube XTP for the D every tank since new.
