New windshield

I was on a mini vacation over the weekend and on my way back through the heavily salted roads a chunk of salt jumped off the semi next to me and put a nice little crack in the windshield. My question is has anyone had theirs replaced? If so by dealer or other and the cost? I would definitely feel more comfortable with BMW replacing it.

It is not cheap to get BMW to do it. The previous owner of my car had BMW replace it just before I bought it. I'd have to dig up the paper work for an exact price, but pretty sure it was around the $600 mark.

Of course I'm in Canada. Seems everything is more expensive up here.

make sure they do it right otherwise the windshield cowl wont fit correctly and the fucker will allow water to pass through your firewall into the passenger compartment. this eventually ruins the blower motor for the ac.

Soo glad I never took those windshield headhunters who give you free steak and a free windshield on the house from your insurance company.

That's why I was thinking the dealer. I will have to check on the insurance. What about filling the crack?

I went aftermarket on mine. It was $350 installed. Dealer wanted over $800.

Considering the amount of stone pitting it gets on our roads in a given year, I'd never be paying more than $400, since it'll get swapped out again.

Just find a good glass place that has a good rep and you'll be fine.

I got mine done with safelite last month thru insurance and they use pilkington glass. They did an amazing job. I think safelite is better than getting it done by bmw because installing windshields is safelite's only job.
