Has anyone drained their battery while using....

BT scanner seem to drain my battery tonight while scanning. Or it's doing something else, I can turn the car on, but it won't crank over and start. When I try to do that, it seems like the battery's dead, but I don't know if that's the case because one of the codes I found said something about DME in energy saving mode..........

Please help!!

Ive had a similar issue

If you let your car sit for a bit, it either doesnt turn over, or it takes a while and seems to struggle, but then runs perfect.

If you push the button, and it starts to attempt to turn over, hit the button again to turn it off, and then hit the button to turn it on again and it should start instantaneously.

thats been my experience at least. going in to have it checked out asap

Thanks for the input. So you think it might be the battery or alternator?

I tried to turn on and start the car a few times right after scanning, but it wouldn't start! I'll try again in about 15 min.

That's weird.

I use the BT scanner weekly and the only battery it seems to drain really quickly is the one on my laptop.

The car has always started right up after a scan.

How long are you scanning for? Should only take a few minutes.....

Never had an issue on the stock battery. I get low battery warnings with the 21lb braile. With the braile, the car shuts down the comfort access entry, on a regular basis as well.

You could use a good multimeter to see what volts the battery is actually holding. You could test the alternator that way as well.

Maybe 20 min tops, I was running in and outta the house in that time, so didn't stay by the laptop. I just let it do its thing and checking back every 5-10 min or so.......But got the car started this morning, no problems.

It's used for electronics debugging, etc.

You can test voltage, current, continuity, frequency, capacitance, etc. Fluke is one of the better brand names, but they are more pricey. You can get an entry level Fluke for $120: http://www.amazon.com/Fluke-115-Comp...3646131&sr=8-1

There are many cheaper units, even at your local auto parts store, but you get what you pay for in this case.

ya, LOL. My laptop is old and slow.......it takes FOREVER to load up the BavTec program. Plus I didn't stay by the laptop......hahaha.

BTW, do you guys need to connect to the network (wireless) in order to run the BacTech software each time? Because I do, and I thought that was weird.....Am I doing something wrong?

I thought once the software is dl on my desktop, I can just run it from there without connecting to the network. Apparently, that's not what it told me.

TIA

^ Fluke are the best testers. We use Fluke EtherScope Series testers at work. Though this tester is used on Cat 5, 5e, 6 and Fiber Optic. Not sure about the multimeters, but we do send our Fluke tester in to get re-calibrated every so often. If you need a good cheap multimeter, the radio shack versions work quite well and their only $20-$30.
