Hey all,
I purchased my CPO 09 E93 in October and the CPO inspection reported 3mm on the rear tires at 16,600 miles.
After visiting the dealership this weekend, I was told my rear tires need to be changed immediately at 20,857 miles. Yes the tread is low, but I need to change them so soon??

Currently I have Bridgestone Potenza RFT, F: 225/35-19, R: 255/30-19 (New and mounted at 11,250 miles)

After doing some research and the complaints about the RFT tires, I was looking at the Michelin Pilot Super Sport (non-RFT). I wanted to change all four at once, but the tread on the front tires is still in great condition and I don't want to throw away $500.

Would it be advisable to just change out the rear tires with the super sports? or should I change em all, at the cost of good tires?

Also, could I report any type of claim to BMW NA about the extreme tread wear in such short time/mileage?

Lastly, where do you all recommend getting the tires mounted, balanced and aligned? I am definitely going through Tire Rack to save.... would it be frowned upon to bring tires to the dealership??

And Pilot super sports are AWESOME tires. if your not looking to spend to much money, you can always find some used Michelin tires on Ebay that were used a little bit for under 250 Shipped for a front or rear pair, ive bought from ebay twice and they work out great. and I dont think BMW NA will believe you theyll probably think you were burning rubber purposely. and also the dealer will mount and balance tires for 120$ for all four, most shops dont have the right kind of mounting machine for low profile tires.

What would you guys do, buy 2 Potenza replacements from tirerack? or go to the Pilot super sports Non-rft route, bite the bullet and get all 4 replaced?

PSS or DW's. I got the RFT's off after 1,500 miles for a set of oversize DW's

RFT'S and non-RFT's have very different handling characteristics. By having RFT's up front and non-RFT's in the rear you are asking for oversteer. Plus who knows what will happen at the limits, in the rain, during emergency maneuvers and severe braking.

I had this same problem not long ago, but the other way around.
My front tyres where worn and the rears still had a few mm left.

In the end, I went with 4x Goodyear Eagle F1 non-RFT.
The grip is a massive improvement! Car actually feels stable at speed in the wet now

Id vote for all 4 replacements. IF your front 2 are in really good nick, just sell them to re-coup some of the cost.
I didn't keep my rears in the end, could not be bothered with the hassle. (Wasn't much left on them anyway)

One or the other, dont mix. If you like the harsh ride of the RFT's then get rear RFT's if you want a better ride with the best Non RFT out there then swap and get PSS all around.

I had rft's on the front and mich pss on the back for like 2 months. Honestly it's fine. If you're not tracking the car and not driving insane, you won't even tell a difference.

The differing handling characteristics will often result in dangerous and unpredictable vehicle behavior - especially in emergency situations.

Back in the day when radials were first introduced to the US, some folks tried mixing them with existing bias ply rubber with some ugly results.

So if you plan to drive only on dry pavement and never over 30 mph, perhaps it will work for you. Otherwise, either replace your rear RFTs with the same tire as the fronts (RE 050A?), or buy 4 go-flats and sell your existing front tires to recoup some of the money.

My dealer is happy to mount and balance tires, but they will not mount non-RFTs, however Tire Rack will provide a list of recommended installers in your area.

I had good results selling some used E46 wheels & snow tires on my local CraigsList.

Definitely wouldn't recommend mixing RFTs and non-RFTs!

Don"t mix!! You will have different braking adhesion and handling characteristics and asking for a very bad experience!

Buy 4 new tires, sell the other 2 here or craigslist to get some of your money back

Bridgestone RE760 are great for the price you pay.
