how would i go about selling an idea to a major network?

i have a great idea for a reality show that i believe will sell greatly, but i don't know what the first step is. how would i go about getting a deal from a major network for ex. mtv?

if it all works out, i promise to payback the guys who helped me

They wont listen to you. Reason being is they might have that idea in the works or on the shelf.. So they dont want to listen to you so you can later sue in court saying they stole the idea..

Ever notice how some companies say please dont not send any ideas in?

Yea unless u have an IN in the Media Connections good luck, its like telling Ferrari you have an Idea that will make their car better, they just wont care unless ur a team member..

try to get a patent or some kinda copyright so no one will steal your idea.
