BMW PPK on Sale $450 on eBay

Hi,

I was looking around and found the BMW PPK on sale from a dealer for $450.
It says N55 but they confirmed that they will order for N54.

Some people, like me will only do the factory tune to keep the warranty in tact with no issues.

I would say it's a good deal for a first step in tuning. But if you don't have a warranty it's not worth it.

If you want to go BMW PPK, I would call BMW Paul Miller (the vendor listed) and confirm with them. They're a legit dealer, Paul Miller is in NJ and also does Audi, Bentley, Land Rovers, Rolls Royce, Porsche

+1...PPK1 is not worth it...I had it and changed to GIAC and now very pleased. Yes, I wasted money thinking the PPK would be satisfactory. My previous car (135) had Cobb Stage II w/ FBOs.

I was also underwhelmed with what the PPK1 did. Glad that I went with the hardware as well, more for peace of mind than anything. As others have said, a proper tune will not be something you will regret.

I'd get the PPK for it's cooling bits. Skip the software.

I did order it.
For $450 + the install, it's the cheapest 20 horses and 30 ft/lbs I can get.
Yes, there are tunes with more HP. Yes they are cheaper and priced well.
None of them keep my extended warranty. My car is warranted for another 2 years and 40K more miles.

When I'm ready to replace the turbos or something like that out of warranty, I'll consider another tune, but for now the PPK will have to do.

If it does nothing but reduce throttle lag just a bit, it is worth it to me.
I don't need 400HP. I currently run out of road, before I run out of car.

Now to go pick my Forgestar's from UPS. 8-)

JB4 is cheaper, has many more features and yields 3-4 times more power than PPK. Install takes 10 minutes if you need warranty work. PPK is just a waste of $450, warranty or not.

The upgraded cooling parts are not a waste of money, just the software, but when you get the ppk, you're not just getting software like a lot of people seem to think.

OP will eventually upgrade to a real tune, I see it in his near future

Looks like OP missed this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/390476998734...734%26_rdc%3D1

"THIS IS ONLY THE UPGRADE SOFTWARE MUST BE INSTALLED AT A BMW DEALERSHIP"

For software only, don't spend the $$$. Also, the kit they compare to is a software only kit for $800, the proper PPK with the extras is $1200+

Nope. Didn't miss it.
I have the sports package so the additional bits are not needed. Also I do know that it needs to be installed.

It's $450 + $200 for the install.
I won't be going to a different tune anytime soon.
You may be able to remove the footprint of a tune, but I just don't need the hassle every time I take my car in for service.

My original post was a service for those like me that don't want to void their warranty.

Your name is "techwhiz" so I assumed you could plug/unplug some wires without too much hassle...but hey, it's your money/car, do whatever you want!

I ordered the PPK from the same BMW dealership for $450. I had it installed along with the BMW PE. The added hp/tq is nice and like you, I have extended warranty and don't feel like installing/removing a tune whenever it has to be serviced. I don't plan on doing any street racing or track days so it works for me. I bought the car because I wanted a convertible, not a race car. Now a used 335i e92 would be a nice track car, IMHO.

After 6yrs/100k miles, I may look into aftermarket tuning.

No problem unplugging wires.
No problem doing anything electrical or mechanical.
I've designed hardware more complex than engine management units.
Everything from chips in mainframes to chips that do HD video encoding and decoding.
That's not the point.

I wanted something that would not void my warranty and I don't want to flash or remove the tune when I go into for service. It's a choice.

Exactly my point. I'm glad I'm not alone.
I'll have it installed as soon as the envelope arrives.
I also need to have them address the constant squealing brakes.

The Forgestars go on the car Monday.

Just saying there are ALOT of people who still have their warranty and mod their car. Easy to take off mods as like a tune or intake. Spending 450 dollars on something that probably gives your the least amount of hp in the market, when you can get 3-4 times more hp then what your getting just doesnt make sense. Is another 30-40 WHP enough to take some time out and install a proper tune? Cobb takes 10 minutes and is easy as starting your car or changing the time on your clock. Can be uninstalled and practically untraceable. You may not even want the car after another year or 2(which unless you have an 08 or 09, the BMW extended warranty should be over for 07 this year or early next year)

i dont get why you wouldnt want more hp for 500 dollars. With no resale value at that.

Doesn't get any easier than the Cobb. Just flash back to stock whenever you please. Done.

Wrong, you have an oil cooler. The full PPK gives you added bits you do not have.

This would have been a good deal if the hardware was included. Extra radiator helps with track days
