The stock size is 9.75x10.9 (from what I could tell), and you'd just use a 1/4" rubber rope gasket to run around the notch to the right of the filter. Hmmmm...

It might not do anything, but here is my theory:

The air squeezes through that thick bar (which helps seal the filter), and the top of the lid (where I've lowered the fins). The bar extends up at least 2mm in to the air stream, and the fins create a lot of surface area to slow the air down.

Joking aside I think there might be a market for a larger volume high-flow lid like they do with the LS1. There is plenty of space under the good to take it up higher.

Could happen, but I doubt it. The filter is pretty stiff and the remaining groves hold it down tightly.

I still dunno, I doubt that bar makes much if any difference. Just built a new top to the box. Got your fiberglassing skills up to par?

Take yours off and look at the path the air flows. It only takes a couple of seconds to snap off. Not great with fiberglass, I'll leave that to someone else.

Hrmm, maybe I should pick up an extra air box lid as well and make a mold.

Yeah someone could make high flow lids that cost $40 each and sell them for $199 pretty easily. Maybe K&N will come out with a lid+filter combo?

Before anything I wuold like to see a dyno with and without the lid in place. If the gains are minimal without the lid then not much point in doing anything further.

Been done and posted, it was around 9hp without the lid.

Keep in mind there is less fresh air coming through the "ram air" on a stationary dyno, but there is hope for gains.

Also I noticed that turbonetics engineer picked up ~15hp with the GruppeM. The long runs to the turbo are definitely a restriction but I wouldn't mind seeing more dyno testing on the lid/airboxes.
