Wheel Offsets - Advice Needed
Just need some advice from you clever chaps - im about to order some new rims for the E91 335i Touring - im going for 19" aftermarket rims with 8.5" fronts and 9.5" rears - the offsets are 35 front and 45 rear - and i need to know if these will be ok on the car? The original MV3's were 34 front (so assume 35 is ok) but the rears were 37, so is 45 too much of a variance??
Bear in mind that the car is lowered on coilovers - but these are fully adjustable so i guess i can raise her up if shes sitting too low. The arches have also been rolled. Ive also currently got 12mm spacers on front and back - but again i can remove these if they interfere in the clearance etc. So, just wondered if anyone saw a glaring problem with the rear offset - or will i be ok?? Want to order them this afternoon if possible so any quick replies would be greatly appreciated!!!

If the wheels are the same width as the MV3's they will sit 8mm further in than stock so spacers req'd - 10mm spacers will give a 2mm more aggressice stance, 15mm would be my choice at 7mm wider stance than stock.
There is a handy wheel calculator here: http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=12 EDIT: Just noted your already on spacers - you will need the back ones on for sure - 12mm will give a 4mm wider stance than stock with these aftermarket wheels. |

Thanks fella. Have to say i thought i had this offset thing all worked out but now im not so sure - SO - am i right in thinking that the larger the number ie 45 as opposed to 35 - then the higher the number the further INSIDE the arch the wheel will sit?? Or is it the other way around??

If you type the wheel dimension into that calculator it will show exactly how they fit in the arch - it will also calculate differences in rolling radius if your upgrading diameters - good for working out what tyres will give you the same rolling radius, and how much it will affect the speedo reading. The thing to bear in mind is if you are going from a 9" wide wheel to a 9.5" the offset becomes more complicated so the calculator is brilliant for working it all out for you and from there you can judge what spacers you want/need. |

A larger offset number, the more distance there is between the mounting face and the centre point of the wheel, making the outer edge sink further into the wheel arch. Simple! |
