When to buy?

Hey everyone, I've been reading the board for a few weeks now and decided to join and ask for your opinions.

I'm interested in buying a 328xi Coupe in the next 6 months - 1 year and was curious what your thoughts were about concerning the best time to either buy or lease. I'd be looking to get a 2008, so I'm thinking about waiting until the 2009 models come out so that the prices on the '08 are lower, however I don't know how much lower they get; would you guys know?

I'm in Ottawa, so any advice on the two dealerships? Which would give the better deal? Better service? etc...

Thanks!

Make sure a dealer has the car you want on the lot.

Wait till the last day of the month.

Show up at the dealership 15 min before they close with a huge double-double coffee, make yourself comfortable and start negotiating.

Be prepared to walk out.

Good luck!

Buy at the beginning of winter (which in Ottawa starts just after Labour Day as I recall.:) but before people start getting Christmas bonuses.
Sports coupes are a much tougher sell then.

I always buy in November/December. The rates are better.

You might be hard pressed to find a 2008 at that time of year though.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like either the end of the month or the fall season is the best time to get a new car. I'm also increasingly leaning towards leasing as I like the option of getting a new car every few years (though the constant payments are a bit of a drag!).

Does BMW tend to lower the prices on its current year cars in the fall, or are dealerships just willing to negotiate more, then?

You will have difficulty finding any 2008s left by October. Best to order new around Thanksgiving and you'll be driving a 2009 by Christmas.

The deals are now! I just got $3000 of my 335xi.

I missed the deal last fall of the $1500 rebate.

Lucky, but the longer you wait the better chance BMWCA revokes any crrency deals.

What ever you might save in the future, the rebate will easily exceed it,
