I live in Tampa and called Reeves BMW back on January 25 to check the recall update for my 2010 which I am in the HAH (High Absolute Humidity) Priority Group 1. The customer service agent checked my VIN said there still is no replacement units available, but she said she can contact BMW NA and have them send a ‘interim remedy’ which is only temporary until whenever the actual replacement or "Final remedy" is available. I said to the agent, I’ll just pass on that.
From what I found out, the "interim remedy" is part of Priorty Group 4 as per the following:

Some Initial Vehicle Manufacturers are replacing recalled inflators with newly manufactured "like-for-like" inflators while they work towards an alternative, final remedy. Vehicles in Priority Group 4 include those vehicles with driver side frontal air bag inflators that have received, or will receive, an "interim remedy," meaning they have been, or will be, remedied with a Takata inflator that has been recalled, and will require a second remedy once the final remedy is available.

Once repaired with the interim remedy, these vehicles are at the lowest risk of an inflator rupture because the inflator is new and has not yet been subject to long-term continuous exposure to HAH conditions. Unless specifically added at a later date to a higher Priority Group for re-remedy by their vehicle manufacturer, all remaining vehicles requiring a second, final, remedy of the inflator(s) are included in Priority Group 4.

So in layman’s terms, the "interim remedy" is a replacement that comes from a supply of never used defective airbags which they swap out with the notion that, if they have been stored in a cool warehouse, they are better than the current defective ones which have been in a humid car for several number of years.

I would double check with your dealer because they may not have told you that they use the "Interim remedy". Also, check your VIN# again just to be sure that it's off the recall list or if it's still on the list with a special note that it has the "Interim remedy" or something similar. But if you did get the actual replacement, good for you.
Your St. Pete dealer must have some kind of inside connection at BMWNA.
Off the recall list completely as of this week.

Gonna have to talk to my trusted mechanic. He used to work at Reeves BMW before he started his own indy shop and knows people who work there. Maybe he can get his peeps to use their connections and get it expedited.

Certainly can't hurt. I tried to schmooze the BMW rep best I could, maybe it worked. Good luck!

This statement could be misleading, but loosely stated, yes, it is true.

While the airbag itself is not stamped with the vehicle's VIN, the airbag serial number is tied to the VIN for tracking purposes, thereby indirectly linking the bag to the vehicles VIN.

This is due to liability reasons assuredly. BMW must keep track of which vehicles receive replacement airbags, therefore not only maintain accuracy by categorizing airbag replacement priority "zones", but specified further by VIN to track completion.

When I had my airbag replaced on Tuesday, my SA confirmed this.

Thanks bro! Will give it a shot. What the heck. Right?
Worst case, I'll just keep waiting for like eternity, but it ain't gonna keep me from driving.

Just talked to BMW NA and was told letters for AZ cars won't be going out until September and likely get replacement in October. I'll believe it when it happens.

I finally called BMW NA a couple weeks ago and was told they now have the ability to request to expedite the replacement. They contacted my dealer and less than a week later the dealer called to setup an appointment to replace it.

I waited and was in and out of the dealer in an hour.

I had my dashcam going and the car wasn't even in the shop for 10 mins. They said they don't give out loaners for the airbag job. I did get a lift to work however as i couldn't wait. (They told me it would take an hour but i just couldn't miss work that day).

I've removed the airbag to swap out steering wheels. It takes a few minutes to pop the airbag in and out. 10-15 minutes max if you include disconnecting the battery.

A friend of mine who owns an '05 325i just rolled into work and told me about the airbag recall and showed me his new airbags. Looked great! I haven't received anything from BMW since I heard about Takata's hand in effing up millions of cars, but decided wtf, I'll run my VIN anyways. So I checked it at BMWUSA and NHTSA and didn't get a hit! Not for nothing, but every chance that my 'ole gal could be potentially screwed up in someway, it pulls through just fine. 11 years old and still a joy.

What's stupid is I don't think the heat helps things, so you guys get bumped since it's dry?

I wonder if I need to call every dealer in the state. This is not cool at all. She gave me some BS about older models will get fixed first. What year is yours?

I talked with an SA (at the only BMW dealer in my state) since the part is finally in for my '02 (different part/recall, same issue) and he said they weren't giving rentals for E9x recalls anymore. I didn't ask about a rental, he offered that as (I think) assurance that I didn't have anything to worry about in terms of safety. I don't disagree, I still haven't heard about anyone getting injured in a BMW by a defective airbag. What I don't like is that I'm still holding the bag on a car with an open recall, patiently, but what if I want to sell/trade? Maybe I should have taken the rental :/

I've been meaning to call again to make sure everything is still on track. I'm hoping things haven't been pushed back again.

Air Bag Recall Executed

After a false start a couple weeks ago the local dealer called last Monday to say the replacement Air Bag was in and replacement could be scheduled.
yesterday, Thursday 7/20/2017 took the car in SA said it would take 45 minutes if I wanted to wait instead of using loaner car. I said ok and it was done in 47 minutes. Good experience. Skip

Got mine done Saturday. Dropped the car off at 8:20am, they let me choose between an x3 and a 3 series loaner, chose the x3 since I had never been in one. Called me back around 3pm and told me it was done. Got a decent washing/vacuum out of it also.
