Interior Swap

I wondered if anyone would be interested in an interior swap.

At the minute I have a black Dakota leather interior but I do like the Coral red leather.

Just a foot in the water at the minute but quite fancy the change.

Any idea on how long it would take to do the switch and how difficult it would be? and any implications I may have?

It is pretty easy to do. If you have a through load system in the back it is MUCH more complicated.

Disconnect battery before disconnecting airbags if you want to avoid the need for airbag light reset at the stealers.

I'd be surprised if you find anyone willing to swap Coral Red leather for black, most like me will have held out looking for one with the red leather so swapping to black would not be an option they would consider.

Its not a long shot. Black leather interior is the most popular choice when ordering a new 3 series by miles. I will be ordering a new 335i next year with dakota black interior. Red wouldnt even be an option for me!

There was a guy posting in the classifieds last week looking for a black 335i coupe with black interior. Said he would consider a different colour interior, then swap for black. I have seen several threads like this

For your info there is a guy on ebay selling RED leather M-Sport interior for both E92 and E90 models. He wants £750 for it as I asked him for the lowest price he can do. Maybe he will swap woth you if you could pay him extra, letx say £100 or so...

Cheers for the info guys

May well be worth a £100.

might drop him a line.

If I update my interior might feel like a new car to me and make me want to keep it even longer instead of changing after a couple of years

I've swapped the interiors on E46's before, both normal and electric seats. Really very simple. There is a lot of stigma attached to disconnecting the battery. Fine if you're actually disconnecting the airbags as the capacitors need a few mins to discharge, just to be on the safe side. The airbags in the doors are not attached to the door cards, so no need to unplug. If you have airbags in the seats, it might be wise to disconnect the battery, but make sure that the seat is in a suitable position to be able to get to all 4 mounting bolts and remove, especially if it's electrically adjustable.

Make sure that if the battery is connected, the ignition is not turned on when any plugs are undone otherwise a fault code will be thrown.

Takes about 2 hours to change an E46 coupe interior, that's all seats and door cards. Can't think it would be too different for an E92.

Its easy to disconnect the batery and swap rear and front seats, but it is so hard to swap door card because of lights, window switches, speakers etc... There is no DIY about door cards...

on the contrary it is easy to swap door cards. All the switches are part of the door cards and you just swap with connections. There is a tech article on how to do it. I think you have to look in the audio section.
