Vinyl wrap Mirror's?

Has anybody ever done this? My goal is matte black mirrors, but can't seem to find cheap caps anywhere, but wrapping shouldn't be so bad...right?

i haven't done it myself, but ive asked someone who does vehicle wraps and he said that vinyl on mirrors have a tendency to pull back or curl over time simply because theres a lot of curves on the mirror. I think it should be fine tho if you do a good job wrapping it.

Ok, thanks! Probably the safest thing for long term is to take them off and sand them and paint them matte black...

Yea, that would probably last longer than vinyl, just make sure to put those paint-chip protection stuff on it ( dunno what they're called ), cuz i painted my grills matte black once and it started to get rock chips after a couple months

I wrapped my mirrors in matte white and it took me about an hour each side (dry install)....just wrap around edges to prevent the vinyl from lifting at the edges. Make relief cuts and remember to not stretch the vinyl right after heating it...let it cool down a bit.

Agreed, the only reason the person above had chipping after a very short period is a lack of clearcoat. There are several ways to do a matte black (with a spray gun), either with a flattener in the paint so that the paint is just a flat black or a flattener in the clearcoat, which offers greater protection because you can buff it just like a regular paint job, and it'll offer the same look

Essentially with a spray paint can you can do the same, use a flat black paint and a flat clear, and you'll be alright.

You can also use plasti-dip...matte black look, peels right off to go back to oem.

What kind of vinyl would you recommend for under the front bumper? I've got the body-colored 'lines' in the middle of the lower grills and I'd like to black them out without permanently changing them.

So a good sanding first, then flat paint then a clear spray?

OEM parts are about $50 each for primed... probably could do this mod for under $200.

What about the CF covers? Have you thought of that?

stick your fingers in between the mirror cap and the mirror, pull (some elbow grease is needed), and they should just pop off.

I'm bringing back an old thread, but I dont think it should be hard to wrap.

I'm planning on doing mine in a week or so. Just need to use heat to get around the curves.

yea i wrapped mine wasnt too hard i did it top to bottom, but a few months ago a trucks bumper fell off in front of me and tore off my side mirror, the new one i got was the base primer, didnt have any vinyl left so i used the black plasti dip and it looks exactly the same and also has lasted just as long.

Im wrapping mine this weekend in brushed steel with the pattern going horizontal. so to pop them off you just pull on them away from the mirror side?

Correct. Post pics of your mirrors when you're done! I was thinking of something similar.
