Since many of you liked the process on the photo section I though it would benefit the community if I put this DIY together.

------------

All the credit for the creation of this technique and product used goes to: http://www.dipyourcar.com

Also credit to my friend for being the one to push to have this done on his car and the one with the idea. e90post username: CGOM3Z.

---------------

What you need:

1. ProCarKit or Just PlastiDip paint if you have your own paint sprayer:

Link to Kit: Click Here

Link to Just PlastiDip: Click Here

We used the large kit x3 gallons of the Black PlastiDip. Other colors are available.

The Kit Includes:

- The Spray Gun
- x3 Gallons of PlastiDip and Thinner
- 2-3 Rolls of Blue Tape
- Mixing Wand
- Microfiber Towel

2. Only extra thing we needed was newspapers and plastic bag but bag was not really necessary we could have used newspapers all around.

---------------------
Instructions:

Here is the video from the DipYourCar.com website on the full process:

Also link to their instructions: Click Here

-----------------------

Q&A:

How hard was it to do?

Extremely easy honestly we had no experience painting cars. Just have to be patient when applying coats. It seems like it will take forever but by the 3-4 coats it all starts to fill in.

How is the texture?

The texture is rough to the touch but looks smooth just like flat black vinyl IMO.

Is easy to take off?

Very easy just rubbing it somewhat hard with your thumb you should be able to pinch it and start peeling it off. So easy in fact the instructions tell you not to cover the headlights or taillights. We even oversprayed one the side mirrors and we just peeled it off and started over on it.

How long will it last?

From the website they said with normal driving and maybe touching it up it should last 6-12 months before putting major re-coats of it. IMO I dont think it would last more than 6 months before having to re-coat it. But you can just re-coat parts along the way and have it last as long as you like.

Would you recommend this over vinyl or repaint?

Absolutely not if those options are available to you and you have the money for such a project those would obviously be better options. This is what we consider a fun project to do to have on the car for couple months change up colors whenever you like and so forth.

Def cool!

I would never have the balls to do something like this - b/c I just know eventually, I would say to myself: "Ok, that was cool, but white was sick looking too". I assume (flame suit on) that this is permanent right?

EDITED...

Nevermind - would be smart of me to read the post instead of scanning and checking out the pics only

Great write up. I highly doubt that the car being a daily driver, Plasti-dip will last 6 months. It is the front bumper I'm worried about. It will chip so easily. Then again, I plasti-dipped a small part of my rear bumper for the diffuser look, lasting about 1.5yr without any problems. Still holding up strong.

Thanks eveyone! Biggest thing to durability is the amount of coats. Instructions suggest 4-5 coats. I will update as time passes as to how it is holding up.

this is awesome! i was holding off on any plastidipping bc i didn't have an air compressor and nice spray gun but the electric HVLP air turbine from wagner looks sweet! I am going to do my window trim first to see how the texture feels.

Thx OP for the nice write up!

How do you keep it clean, like if a bird craps on it is it easy to just wash off without it peeling or fading

Unbelievable! I can't believe I never heard of this stuff before! I was so amazed I ended up watching every DIY video on dipyourcar.com, lol.

I will definitely be trying this stuff soon, although not the entire care.

Please keep us up to date on your longevity!
