Calling all with sound upgrades

- i've just spent a good few hours searching and reading threads on upgrading the under seat sub woofers.

Quite a lot of threads from our friends over in the states, but mostly E90's and E92's. Anyone done this on their E91? (I know the subwoofer part will be the same, but interested in the boot area). Would be grateful if you could share pics/advice.

Here's what I (think) I know so far:
  • the SWS-8 is not widely available in the UK?
  • its a little too deep for the enclosure
  • it apparantly sounds good
  • need an amp to run them

A few questions though if anyone can shed light on the matter?

Can any kind of amplifier be used?
Do I need a LOC or is that dependant on whether I have the black or silver (stock) amp?
can the new amp be used for more than just the subwoofers?

finally is any of the above different if you have a CCC iDrive or a CIC iDrive?

thanks all in advance.[/LIST]
Also is it a pre-req to get the LOC?

Having read through a Few posts I'm pretty sure Mr Singh will be the one distributing them!

+1.
And Mr. Singh's company is its distributor. Best sound for its money if you do not want to go down the Alpine route.

OP, Few questions for you:

1- Your budget
2- Sound preferences
3- How long are you going to keep the car?
4- Do you consider resale value of your sound system, or you don't bother and want best sound system.

These things are important before somebody can sincerely give you opinion on your sound system.

Yup I am the UK Distributor, eventually these will be available from selected dealer outlets. Estimate UK RRP of £309. And a further £50 (2CH) for a full plug and play harness. Lots of amps to choose from, including smart sensing non remote required amps from Mosconi (ONE Series) namely the 120.4

Why didnt BMW just fit phono out, life would have been so much easier.
Just want to be able to add my PG amp and MB Quart sub to my system for some added punch. Might have to go for a DDin unit. Are there many about?

Because then you'd be able to upgrade their system without giving them ANY extra money...

Mr Makkan, not sure to be honest, had it 9 months and have to admit I do like the car. Sound could be better and would like to improve it without chucking loads of money at it. I just want it to sound better, clearer when cranked and maybe a bit of a thump too.

Many thanks. Sounds decent price for what they can do.

DSP can take differential input, but can amp take differential input without DSP?

Yup no issues with hi/lo floating inputs. Yes I suspect it can there would be an option to bypass the DSP, assuming that's what your asking?

Yes, I wonder if DSP can be skipped and if amp can take direct signals by HU (as JL amps can after coding to hi-fi) or through LOC (as JL amps can) than that is a really good option.

out of interest, what does the alpine kit cost? someone on here said that if you already had the tweeters front and rear, then the alpine upgrade wouldn't do much for you?

maybe its worth heading down the coding route first and coding the HU to top hifi? Mak?
