Average mileage

What is classed as average annual mileage nowadays?
I know a few years ago it was around 12k. Is it still the same?

I'd say around the 15000 mark nowadays

If the dealer is trading in your car, it's 10,000 miles. If he is selling you one, it is 12,000 miles!

A car I'm looking at is an 09 plate but has covered 61,000.
I'm thinking its quite high.

It's defo above average, even on 15000 miles a year, but it depends if the mileage is reflected in the price IMO, and also how many miles a year you do, if you only do low mileage, by the time you come to sell it on in a few years, the mileage will then be average and will sell on ok, if its priced right you could get a good deal.

I was reading a survey a while ago breaking down what each class of car done.

Obviously small town cars averaged less miles and typical rep mobiles more.

The actual average for a private driver was 10,000 miles but business users pulled the overall average up to 12,000 miles per year.

I don't see any mention of service history, but it's nicely specced. I can't comment on the price as I've no idea on average prices of 335i's

As nice as it is, there's AUC cars with less than half that mileage and very similar spec for a couple of grand more, me personally, I'd go down the AUC route, for the warranty alone.

The car you posted the link to could be worth a look, even just to satisfy your curiosity. if its localish, I'd be tempted just to go and have a look and if it all stacked up, make an offer which he might laugh at or he might accept, either way you've nothing to lose really.

Why is everyone obsessed with average miles?

I'd much rather have a car thats done 60000 miles on the motorway in 6th gear, cruising than a car that's done 60000 miles a year bouncing around town, crunching gears, using the clutch, going over speed bumps, clipping curbs etc.

Spot on.

I only went for low mileage for warranty reasons. But if I was buying any other car, I'd buy a mile muncher without doubt.

I am not an expert but I would say brake-pad wear?

My car is still on its original set of pads and has the odd few stone chips, therefore it is a 'mile muncher' albeit the mileage isn't even that high

It'll be hard to tell if there the original pads or not. They have been replaced with Genuine anyway. So I will discard that
I need signs that are obvious, that's it been up and down motorways.

I bought an 09 with 82000 on it,everything works perfect. Runs sweet as a nut and the only thing showing motorway miles was the windscreen. Lots of little nicks and three big chips...£2000 lower than normal price and cost me £75 to change screen....sorted.So Subzero is spot on.

Generally speaking, the front bumper will likely have more stone chips, but the rest of the car should be in very good condition.

Bodywork will be less prone to dings and scuffs, likewise for wheel curbing, and the rear/passenger seat areas should be in immaculate condition.
