PE sounds like a Rice Rocket?

Pulling out onto my main road this morning my pops said my PE sounds like a Rice Rocket. Granted it was still cold and not warmed up it tends to be a bit raspy, very e46 m3 sounding. But my car with PE and the term Rice Rocket don't go together. No other mods, just PE. Made my day very sad Do any of you other guys sound like this?

Without any other mods, it should sound pretty good... the only time i heard it sound like rice was when a fellow member put supersprint headers (catless) in with it; sounded very high pitched and raspy

Not really sure what your problem could be unless you dad is just picking on you.

No headers no nothing, just a welded on PE with no leaks. I think it sounds incredible like next to a building downshifting to 2nd and getting on it is intoxicating. It is raspy when its cold but warmed up it mellows out. He was pretty genuine and said i should go back to stock. He doesn't like change, its just the term "rice rocket" that has me buggin

Yea, it doesn't sound ricey at all. Most high-end sports cars pop and gurgle like you'd get with the PE & AA exhausts.

I'd say it just getting use to a much louder exhaust versus a dead silent exhaust.

lol.

I think the BMW PE is a great sounding exhaust, and I'm not making a biased statement just because I have one on my own car. Not rice at all.

PE at 3000rpm or below does sound a bit deep, u should warm up your car then redline out of your garage next time and see what ur dad gonna say.

I don't think its rice by any means, maybe the glass windows changed the sound haha, he just hears something with a little tone to it and I guess its rice. He's a big porsche fan and don't get me wrong, but a 911 isnt exactly the best sounding car in the lower rpms lol I love my PE. Ive gotten a lot of compliments and a few girls said it sounded incredible which I guess is all that matters haha

I think your dad has no idea what constitutes "rice" vs. refined performance. He just hears something kind of loud that isn't a barrel-chested American V8 and labels it "rice". The other issue is that you are way too concerned with what your dad thinks. I wouldn't fixate on the commentary of someone who has already made it obvious that he has no idea what he is talking about.

I agree, and its not that I was too concerned. I thought the term rice rocket was somewhat entertaining with how he described it and figured id post a somewhat humorous thread about it. It could of been him, a friend, a random whoever i prob still would of posted it.

PE stands for perfect exhaust!

Agree with your dad that a cayman/boxster exhaust sounds better, though. Had a 987 that played music out its ass.

Here's what a P/E should sound like. And if that's 'rice', I'll eat my hat!
