Woke up the beast after summer hibernation. Engine have been making some weird rattling noises, displaying codes for valvetronic servo motor. Engine computer did not know the position of valve openings because sensor on the servo motor went bad, so it was always trying to reset itself making rattling noises. I ordered another valvetronic motor, even at heavily discounted price it was still $200 and engine has only 32k miles. So much for BMW quality these days.
Once the valve cover was off, I checked the vanos bolts and they all look in good shape so I did not want to touch that for now, did not even buy new valve cover gasket, it did come off the cover but it stayed on head, so I just changed the servo and put it all back as it was. Gasket is fresh enough and flexible. Connected the battery back on and I heard DME reset the valvetronic servo but this time it was only one click. Started the engine and no more codes. Went for a spin and just enjoyed the huge power from this bad aZZ engine |
