I have a friend who works at Best Buy as part of their Geek Squad. He says he loves the new Windows 7 (tells me how much better than Vista it is). I believe him. Vista (for the short time I was running it) sucked. I understand they patched it and made it better, but I'm happy and content running XP still.

In any case, he had been trying to get me to install Windows 7 on my computer but he's a horrible salesman. He called me on one occasion telling me about a GPU problem associated with his current GPU and Windows 7. To which I promptly replied, "No, I'll just keep running XP until I have to upgrade."

I don't have any unpartitioned space on my laptop, so no go on the windows 7, however vista is doing OK for me at the moment...will wait for a finalized version before I install/upgrade

Its very good.

I just installed it and my PC was actually FASTER under W7 than XP Pro, which I found hard to believe - but it's true!

Also the graphical imagery is just supurb, color is more vibrant and overall it feels good.

My only problem was gaming - the ATI drivers may not be up to par and I was suffering considerable issues - so the XP image is now back on my HD and I'm back to XP Pro till the official release.

I'd say it's definitely worth it to give it a go.

System specs:

CPU - E8500 @ 4.1 ghz
MB - Asus P5Q Pro
RAM - 4 Gigs OCZ
GPU - ATI 4850X2
PSU - OCZ 700W
HD - WD 500 gig
CASE - Antec 900

I ran into issues gaming - particularly some weird gaming in "windows" within windows if you know what I mean - when I'd maximise the windows the graphics would go to hell with flickering etc.

I put it down to some bad ATi drivers - when I wasn't gaming the system ran great, really quick from the boot up and graphically was quite impressive, much clearer than XP's graphics.

Thanks a lot for that. I have a REALLY old system but I only use my computer for the net and downloading stuff really. For gaming I stick to my PS3. I think Windows 7 will be great for me. I'm running XP because I'm not a fan of Vista.

No worries - from testing the IT guys here did in the office on Windows 7 compatibility with older systems (I believe it was a Pentium 3 - don't quote me) they even managed to get it to run nicely.

Win 7 has all the benefits of Vista with less of the drawbacks.

Plus given the prices of the new Intel and AMD offerings, you can have a brand spanking new PC for less than $350 that'll run circles around what most people need on a daily basis!

10 times faster? Wish I could find truth in that. Faster? Sure in a few things, but not everything. People can get off the bus about bashing Windows Vista now. Did it suck when it came out? YES! Does it suck now? Depends on who you ask, I love it I have loved it since SP1. However I run it on a system that can easily run it. I run the x64 Version.

I also am running Windows 7 RC right now x64 and I dig it also. Like D_Crome said, it has all the benefits and less of the drawbacks. But I will never say its 10 times faster.

Here's a good little read for anyone interested.

(I understand Win7 is in a "beta" stage still so before everyone starts whining about that I'll get that out of the way now)

http://gizmodo.com/5233098/windows-7...rst-benchmarks

Oh yea, before people start flaming :P

I am in no way defending Vista over Win 7. I much like everyone here who have used both OS's feel that Win 7 is a better OS all round. But those who hate Vista just because its Vista are going to be in for a shock when they move to Win 7 because like it or not, its Vista done right. So the look and feel are going to be VERY similar, until you apply your own themes and the likes.

Yeah - I can't say my experience was 10x faster....it was a TAD quicker than XP, maybe a 5%-10% quicker (which says a lot considering XP is nearly 9 years old now and a more simplified code).

Vista just had bad press due to the high system requirements at the time and the fact that MS hadn't consulted the industry enough prior to release hence it was a driver's nightmare (drivers as in things that make your PC go - not your car! ).

Though now RAM is dirt cheap, fast CPU's are cheap, Good Video cards are cheap - AND - MS has HEAVILY involved the industry AND THE USER BASE (all these Beta's and Release Candidates) to fix the errors they caused when they released Vista.

As most are saying - Windows 7 is just Vista done right.

I've been running Win7 for about 4 months now. It is very stable (I've not had any problems even considering that i've been installing all kinds of software in an effort to make it hiccup). I would suggest running version 7100 as a main OS.

You can download the Windows 7 RC (Build 7100) directly from Microsoft. Builds 7127 and 7137 have been leaked to the torrent websites.

Also, Windows 7 is scheduled for GA on Oct. 22nd. RTM is going to be the end of July.
