The first step is knowing what you have in it.
Because there are three basic sound systems depending
on what country you live in. And this does not mean the Head Unit
it means which combination of speakers and amplifers you have or don't have.
Then wheat do you mean by upgrade and how how much are you
willing to spend.
Head Unit upgrades are not sound systems upgrades in general.
Speakers alone will not offer much of a upgrade.

Did you read this thread from the beginning there is already info there if you follow the links.

What’s the easiest way to determine what existing system we have? I just picked up a 2008 335i e92 but I have basically zero info from the previous seller lol.

Edit: All I know is that it sounds bad 😂
