Do tons of Practice Tests! Focus primarily on Grammar and Vocab...the Math Should come easy! Study Study Study! Keep using the practice tests to gauge your performance in certain sections and focus on your weaknesses. I took the SAT in 2005 Prior to the change in the SAT format and my high score of my attempts ended up being 1330 of 1600.
I had a 4.0 and I'm now a Junior at Carnegie Mellon U in Pittsburgh. Got any more questions feel free to ask and I'll get back to ya. |

I dont really see the point in studying for a standardized test IMO. How do you even know what to study for? I read about the purpose of the test and it's supposed to measure how people thinking and reason (skills that are needed to "succeed" in college). I think that's BS because people grow at different rates and depending on your life's experience, your ability to think and reason will be quite different from others. Also, just because you score high on the test doesnt necessarily mean you will succeed in college and in life.

Take the princeton review course in person with a teacher.. You will learn a lot, the SAT is a measure on how well you take a standardized test nothing on it is very hard but what makes it hard is the timing issues and wording. The princeton review course helps you pace (which improved my score by 40-50 points I cant recall) along with a lot of helpful info to solve problems.

What's your budget, personality and experience with standardized tests? I didn't study, but was always good at that type of test (also when I took it, not all that long ago, there wasn't the study-aid market that exists today). There are plenty of "do it yourself" books out there for $30-50 if you're the self-motivated type. On the other hand, if you can afford to drop upwards of $1k (maybe more?) you can take a course that will "make" you study.

invest in a few lessons, study ur ass off, know that SATs are bullshit.
i got a 2000... which kinda sucks for me because most of my friends did better than me :'(. GPA was around a 3.7 for public schools. I took 7 APs (recieved A's and B's for all those classes and got 5's on 5 of them 4's on 2 of them). Going to janky UC Davis. Other schools I applied and got into were Boston College, Boston University, Emory, all the UCs except LA, Berk, and SD :'( but whatever... currently a 2nd year here but a third year by units. I could graduate early but I'm thinking of getting a minor in economics to fill my 4th year. dont sweat about college tho... you'll find a school that fits you.

Damn, i sucked really bad on SAT scores, although I had a pretty good GPA i got accepted to some good schools here in SoCal. If your not good at taking test man, i suggest you try and get the highest GPA you can and that itself will go along ways unless your hitting up the ivy leagues or something. But now that i think of it, the tests arent that bad at all man everything is basic stuff, just get some study guides that simulate questions on the SAT's because in the end they do just that, i believe Kaplan makes some good SAT study books, also you if its not too late sign up and take the pre-SAT's. All this of course if your currently a senior, if your a junior just take it easy and focus on your classes now. Good luck bro

o btw. i'd advise you to take SAT1's 2-3 times. SAT2's 2 times (depends on what schools your applying to...some of them require 1-3SATs). I'd say take as many SATs as you can in your junior year and use the senior year as a back up year to take SATs that you want to improve on (should be SAT2s not SAT1s). Usually the curves are better in October?(i believe thtats the first month to take it in the fall).

Who really studies anymore? Kidding.
Best and easiest answer. You can study for these tests but it's really had to do since there never the same and always changing. Just get one of the books and learn the way the testing is prepared and the type of questions asked. Oh read the questions thoroughly at least 2 times. They try to trick you on nearly every question just to see if your even fully reading things.

I took it without studying a wink, and got 1170 (of 1600).
Took an Ivy West course, which teaches you more shortcuts to answering questions than anything (i.e. saves you a ton of time). Didn't do any of the homework assignments they gave me, but still got a 200 point boost to 1370. So don't underestimate preparation for the test. In retrospect, if I actually studied for the damn thing (and got faster by using more shortcuts), I would have probably done better, as the time limits are always what got me. Ended up going to Cal Berkeley. Hope this helps. |

hey man hows your car? did you find out to be the fuel pump?
this is my first year at college at NYU. i pulled off a 3.4 and a 1880 on the sat. i highly do recommed you get a tutor and take lots of practices and learn to use your time wisely. although tututors have different effects on everyone for me it helped alot. first sat i got was 1330 and the my 2nd was a 1780 and last i got 1880. so overall the tutuor got me an extra 550 plus i believe an 9 on my essay. i also recommend you take the math satII as that shit was easy. i also took the chemistry one as well. i was a chemistery>physics kid in highschool . i have a few friends that kind of "gave up" studying and are now in a community for 1-2 years and transfering. but hey if you can save yourself the 1/2 year of make up studying and paying tuition for you to transfer thats also great too. |
