F20 / F21 Options List

Right,

Some people may have seen my previous thread about moving to a smaller car.. i'm am so close to ordering either of these in M Sport but i just can't decide on Pro Nav or not :/

I have it currently... didn't pay for it though as my 325d was used. Is it desirable? Yes! Is it worth it? not sure :/

Opinions please?

Here is what i'm looking at: 118d/120d Auto w/ Metallic paint & leather. Also visibility pack and probably the black panel full cos i think it's pretty neat and it's v. cheap

Might chuck in rear parking sensors if i'm feeling giddy on order day!

I think the main question here is... pro nav OR visibility pack + parking sensors.. (!)

Arent sensors standard these days?? Or are you refering to sensors all round?

Tough choice ... but i guess resale wise the nav would win out, though not sure how much of a premium you could get when it comes to selling compared thr cost up front.

Pro Nav OR visibility pack? Impossible choice; buy something else.

Will you use the Nav much, if yes then it might just about be worth it. If you are unlikely to use it then I would skip it. On a 118 or 120 it won't be as expected come resale time so unlikely to harm the price then massively, conversely how much more will a nav car be worth over non nav, I would reckon the premium on a 1 Series won't be massive so you won't recoup lots of your outlay.

Thats why it comes down to how much you would actually use it and whether that use is worth the cash to you.

million dollar question, i use my nav now most weeks.. sometimes its just a press of the home button to scoot around traffic, others its making my way around central london that i don't know too well.

borrowed the girlfriends car the other month though and just used tomtom on my phone and that was perfectly good enough.. if a little ugly looking.

thing is, with the screen already being there in your face, it just begs for some nav..

gah think i just answered my own question.. but xenons look so nice and i love having parking sensors.. this car is very quickly swallowing any potential savings that i had envisioned! lol

wouldnt be surprised is there was an aftermarket retro fit solution for the nav as the screen is already there!

All you need is the GPS unit and the software and thats it.

I remember googling it when i had a new 5 as i didnt have nav, but changed jobs and gave the car back so didnt look any further.

there's probably more chance of a nav retro then xenon retro looking at http://www.bimmer-tech.net/

seems a bit backwards talking about retro fits for a vehicle that isn't even bought yet!

I would rather have a car with xenons over a nav but everyone's different.

Once you've had xenons it's really hard to go back to normal lights!

As said, get Nav if you think you need it AND will use it a lot. I didn’t bother spec’ing it when I bought my car as I don’t use Nav that much. Take this scenario ….. so if I had the need to use Nav for about 20 times in the time I own the car then for a £2K Nav system thats £100 for each time you use it!!!!! You could buy a TomTom for just one of the £100’s.

If you spec Nav then you would get some money back when you come to sell it - but not much.

Hmmm let's see

Can't see where i'm going vs. don't know where I'm going.

Frankly, having experienced BMW's regular halogen lights on my last X5, I'd rather stay out of the ditch, even if I am completely lost. At least I can use a Garmin or iPhone....a torch is really impractical

I think the Halogens these days are fine, I didn't realise that my old mans F11 didn't have xenons until we sold it, and I used it a lot at night.

They have moved on loads in the last 5 years.

Nav is so much more than just nav though, you get the whole media stuff.
I would want the app mode, and the online stuff, can you order that without nav?
If I havn't got nav I can live with a separate one, but when you have it you use it all the time, that is the big difference.

Oh, one last thing, I would not consider a new car without adding the Harman hi-fi, I would definitely take that over nav.

I see that all BMWs built in Jan 2013 will have DAB as standard too, something to consider.

+1 on the Harman - thats something you would use all the time (unless you dont like music) . I wish I spec'd a better stereo on mine.

i have decided to go for the looks over functionality this time..

currently i use a fraction of the power of the nav i do have, and so long as there's a screen where i can view some stuff without dicking about in a tiny LCD menu, then it's all good.

there we go, bigger u-turn than the government that!

As of January build F20s will come with DAB, auto lights & wipers and xenons will now be a £500 option rather than only available through the £1140 visibility pack. I'd imagine your car will be built January or after as mine was booked over a week ago and just got in the last December build slot. The base price of the car will however be increasing to reflect the new standard spec.

Sensors are indeed only an option. Might as well add the driver comfort pack if you think you need sensors. I need them due to the parking I use and this is what I did. It includes cruise control as well.

It seems that both nav and xenons will add to the GFV (since I figure you are going the PCP route). Not sure how much exactly. When I added the visibility pack the GFV rise meant the option was only costing another £7 per month. The best thing to do is add everything you think you want. Get a price and if it's not where you want get your chosen dealer to run some other quotes chipping options off.

I never went for nav as I have absolutely no need for it. Nice to have, yes but would only ever be used a handful of times. Xenons will get used every day and from what current owners are saying, the halogen units are like driving by candle light. The fact the top half of the dipped beam light is used for an indicator seems to be the issue that makes them bad.

For good info on the F20 get yourself over to babybmw. Lots of info and experience to help you make decisions. Few familiar names from here over there as well.

One or two.

Of the two I'd go for the visibility pack over Nav if I had to. I'd also always take the stereo upgrade, even if not to Harmony Kardon, as the base system does tend to be somewhat weak.

Really?? The F10/F11 halogens are particularly bad I thought. Projector lenses and halogens don't mix.

I've ordered one of these now, will post another thread in good time when everything is confirmed as i'm still querying a couple of VERY minor things, and the colour might still change :P

Went for the jan build date in order to get the DAB and other bits... apparently the large iDrive screen is also now standard? Can anyone confirm this? Xenons are now £590 which is much easier to stomach! I forgot to also add auto lights and wipers, so mowflow, you're sure they are now included as standard? If not i'll ring the dealer and add that no biggie.

Two topics still outstanding:

1. what the hell do I / did I need to add in order to get BMW apps etc.. is the only way to do it if you have a combox i.e. pro navigation?? bloody confusing.. just want to make sure i'm not missing out on the good gadgetry stuff for something that might be like £200 option like enhanced bluetooth, USB stuff etc..

can you play music to the car via Bluetooth by default?

2. I went for estoril blue / black leather... considering switching to mineral grey / red leather... watcha think?

also thought about Valencia orange, but fuck that... I think it'll be a fad.

boosh.

Is a lightly used one (or ex demo), with all the spec you need, not an option or are they like rocking horse shite (like a decent spec manual 330d ). How much will the one you test drove be when available - cant you put your name next to that one (might even get a better engine - might defeat any economy drive you may have?).

Rocking horse shit is the phrase indeed..

Basically 3door with xenons don't fucking exist used (yet), and the rates on the new ones were good, so pushed hard on my part ex and ended up just swapping, no cash.. got no nav this time though ;(
