I'd be very tempted by a 3dr, not quite sure why they only do Sportback!!

3.8 seconds - no chance with 340bhp. Maybe down a mountain with a howling tail wind.

Not even with 4WD and twin clutch.

4.5 at best.

A few testers have matched it, Car and Driver and Top Gear for starters

According to that it appears its 335bhp not 340bhp. But nonetheless - a fast car. Not bad mpg and CO2 too.

Doh.. I should've googled it. Still hard to believe.

RS3 doesn't come out well against the 1M though, which is nice to see.

Have you ever read a single review in the motoring press where they pitted an Audi against a BMW and came out on Audis side? Audi don't give journalists enough freebies or jollies or something like that.

Car looks great, some interior pics would be nice. I'd have one in a heart beat, they look amazing in suzuka grey which isn't far off Ibis.

I don't agree with that. I firmly believe that the BMW M offerings are better than the Audi S/RS equivalent across the board and always have been.

I'm shopping for an Audi RS now really, due to the insurance woes I am having with BM's, so I would like to say otherwise but I don't think its true.

The RS4 is the closest Audi came to winning that battle I think and at the time, they only had to topple the E46 M3 - they failed at that for a bit and then along came the E90 M3 - game over.

Maybe most of the drivers, who often have a proven track record, might actually know what they are talking about don't you think?

Most of the reviews about the TT RS and RS3 read the same.

Do you think they are taking bungs to knock the car down?

Or maybe most of the reviews read the same as it's a fair reflection on the car?

Just shows how much 4WD slows a car once rolling.. 3.8 0-60 vs say 4.8 for a mapped 335d but they do 0-100mph in a shade over 11....

I can categorically state when I went into Leeds Audi 2 weeks ago an actual conversation like this happened...

Matt - I'd like a TTRS please, got one?
Audi - I'll check group stock.... Yes a few, any of these you like?
Matt - No, sorry, too dear/badly specced/bad colours/high miles for the price etc
Audi - No problem sir, it's a shame you don't want an RS3, as we have a cancelled order sat just over there...
Matt - It is, I'm not keen on the Sportback anyway, especially not at 50k +
Audi - Shame sir, this one is only 42k
Matt - Interesting, but it's not for me

As it happens they look better in reality than I thought. I saw one on the M62 and I expect I could have bought the one In leeds and made a profit.

Bottom line is though, I don't have that kind of money to play with and its not exactly like I was going to make thousand and thousand and thousands.

I suppose the point I am making is that your both right - a 3dr RS3 WOULD divide opinion between the RS3 and TTRS, but then again Audi didn't get ANY money from me, whereas if they had a 3dr RS3, they would have. I doubt they will care as it will have sold by now!

I'm sure some do but not them all to form the same opinion.

I have gave up reading German reviews of German cars as they don't come across as impartial.

They often get faster figures too. Is that just stating favourable times or are the UK versions with their tweeks for UK roads just a little slower?

Both posts were tongue in cheek (which I'm sure you realise).

I don't often read car reviews anymore but take them all for what they are. 1 persons opinion. I've found my opinions often differ greatly from those in the motoring press. I suppose facts like bhp etc can be wrong where as opinions can only be different, they are never right or wrong.

On the subject of the RS3 being a sportback. A discussion on ASN concluded that it was down to the new A3 coming out next year. The sportback won't follow until 2013 at the earliest so the RS3 sportback will have a longer life cycle as a current model. Other theories were that the sportback rear looks more in line with current styling where as the 3dr is like a Mk2 golf

It would be quite hard to spec the RS3 up to £50K as for an Audi they actually do come with most of the goodies as std (Sat/Nav, Bluetooth, 19" Alloys Rear Parking Sensors Heated Leather Seats etc) So apart from couple of things like Bose, Privacy Glass & Cruise not really much you need to add and at just under £40K list not a bad package overall (if you don't mind the dated shape)

The 50k statement from me (which I did make) was based on me not knowing jack about the RS3!
