The new Progman upgrade allows you to choose your Point of Interest by names.

^It is available now. You get it from your dealership. If you just want the newest version, you will have to pay for it. You only get it for free if that particular Progman will cure the glitches you are having. You can search for threads with title "Progman" for more info.

Someone on here pointed out that you can also speak the location or destination name. I tried it and it works somewhat.

Likewise. My car is a Jan. 07 built date. I picked her up on Feb. 22nd so it's roughly 2 months and some change as well. This Progman upgrade seems to be one of the better ones as the graphic change, the Point of Interest feature is added, and from what I hear, the speed of the iDrive is a bit faster too.

There are Progman upgrades that comes up very often, but most of them are so minor that it's not worth upgrading unless it will fix some glitches you were having.

It was a feature added to iDrive as of progman 25.00.00, which went into March 7th and later build dates. What is your car's build date (can be located in driver's-side door jamb)? My March-prod E90 included this version.

Not to get off the subject, but 25.00.00 was supposed to fix the continual CD reading, even while car is off, but my car still does this - at least with the DVD.

I think you need the 2007.2 Navigation disc AND the Progman 25.00.00 or higher service upgrade (very slow serial port upload, so they keep your car overnight do this).

It's not the disc itself. They need to have your car there for a day, most likely, and hook it up to their system to update it via the OBD2 port (I think).

The disc remains the same.

One of the nice things on my Infiniti was that I could look up somewhere by phone number. I'd just look up the number before I left and that was much quicker putting that in than the whole address.

+1

I've seen this in my friend's G35, it's a sweet feature. Technically I believe a simple program update would be needed to achieve this functionality since most, if not all, locations allow you to "Select as destination" or "Call" - so the #s are already there, they're just not using it as a search method. Not that hard for BMW to add
