why did you burn a nav disc?

what kind of noise are your experiencing? Is this noise from the drive, or through the speakers?

why? because thats how you get the 2012 nav disk for a good price
the noise comes from the disk drive up front. the old nav disk that came with the car made the same noise but it was a lot less frequent. it sounds likes its reading the disk. but i was wondering if i burn another one at even a slower speed if that would make the disk reading sound be less frequent.

Sounds like the burned cd might not be balanced and wobbling. The actual nav cd is pretty thick.

my actual OEM nav disk did the same thing but it was less frequent. i thought it had something to do with the burn speed.

it's not the burn speed, it's the shitty disc you used.

superjay i'm not trying to be rude in any way but do you know about burning disks? because i did a little reasearch and the problem seems to be more related to the speed in which the disk was burned. the lower the speed the less errors therfor the disk reader doesnt need to work as hard and therefor doesnt make as much noise. the quality of the disk wouldnt make it wobble inside the player.

actually, it would. I've worked for navigation manufacturers. The quality of the disc means as much as the quality of the information ON the disc.

On another note; stealing the nav data, and burning it on a disc costs money. It causes the company to have to recoup costs somehow, so they raise the price for everyone who acquires their disc honestly. If I seem a bit short about this situation that's why.

the nav disks cost obsurd amounts of money even before people were pirating them. i tried using Sony and Verbatim disks and they are both high quality disks but the same thing happens.

the cost comes from all the research required to make those maps. BMW has to buy the maps from NavTeq, navigon, iGo, etc. It costs millions to create, and update map data.
