I was having hpfp issues already, the software update totally broke my fuel pump, then it was replaced and all is well now. Except myself, and my gf can tell it does not have the torquey umph it once had, most noticable in 3rd gear. JB4 coming at some point soon.

got my car back today from the recall. 1/07 build with a 881 pump and the dealer said they needed to replace it even though it was fine. Installed new 446 pump and programming. no change. guess my old pump was doing good. now if this 446 pumps fails ill be pretty pissed lol

2008 335 convertible
At 15,500 I got the limp mode - 6/09. Late last year they did the software update due to rough starts. This week I started the rough starts again - 24,000 miles. Took it in and they did 5 injectors, and the 446 fuel pump. NEVER GOT THE RECALL, BUT THE SYSTEM SAID I SHOULD HAVE IT!!!!!!!! WTF??

I took mine in today. I'm only getting the HPFP and nothing else according the guy. But the guy I talked to couple days ago said I'd be getting new injectors too...so I don't know WTF.

I am not sure if they had the car when they told you about your injectors but they wouldnt be able to tell you if you are getting new injectors without having the car there so they can see the ones that are in the car now.

actually they don't necessarily need to have the car. If you read the service bulletin regarding the emissions recall pertaining to the injectors. It states that when they run your key through the reader (which just checks the vin against their system) they get a response of what your car calls for. If it doesn't come back saying your car is flagged for the injectors they do not go any further. So they don't even inspect your injector numbers. If you call up BMWNA they can check your vin and tell you what your car is flagged for as well. So basically they can just check your vin and not necessarily have your car physically there. Now if you are having issues with your car and they suspect the injectors, that's a different story Second to last sentence under affected vehicles states, "Based on the response of the system, either proceed with the corrective action or take no further action." How do they know which specific cars have faulty parts (hpfp and injectors) by referencing vins? I don't have much faith that they do. As I've posted several weeks ago. My car with original HPFP was not flagged to be replaced. Couple weeks later my HPFP failed and only then was I given the new 446 HPFP

Check the injectors’ production date/serial numbers (using the DMC scanner) and replace if required. PROCEDURE 1. Remove the engine’s acoustic cover following REP11 00 “Remove and refit/replace ignition-coil cover (N54/N54T)”. 2. Check each injector’s part number and index number (indicated as # 1), which are located on the injectors’ plastic housing facing the ignition coil. 3. IMPORTANT: Injectors with P/N 13 53 7 585 261 04-08 index are not affected by this Service Action and should not be replaced. Injectors with PN/index 13 53 7 537 317-xx or 13 53 7 565 138-01 up to 7 565 138-07 must be carefully removed in a sequential order (following REP13 53 310) and marked with the cylinder number. 4. Obtain the DMC (Data Matrix Code) scanner P/N 83 30 2 211 622, which has already been shipped to your center specifically for this Service Action (refer to tools SIB04 30 10). 5. Prior to first usage, the DMC scanner needs to be configured: Connect the scanner to the USB port of the workshop’s PC. Using the attached configuration sheet; scan all 4 bar code symbols. Audible signals after each scanning would indicate correct readout of the scanner. Once successfully completed, configuration does not need to be repeated. 6. With the DMC scanner connected to the workshop PC, from the CenterNet page, open the ASAP Portal, and then select Service/Technic and DMC Injector Check. 7. From the DMC Injector Check, select Start and then enter the vehicle’s last seven digits of the VIN, the mileage, and then continue with Enter DMC Injectors. 8. The injector’s data code must be entered for all six cylinders in a sequential order (from cylinder 1 to 6). For the injectors already removed, scan the rectangular bar code located in the upper left part of the plastic housing, next to the injectors’ part number (indicated as # 2 in the illustration). The 34 or 36-digit line should appear in the corresponding cylinder’s line. If the displayed code shows “##########..,” select Unreadable from the bottom menu bar and proceed to the next cylinder. For the cylinders which did not require an injector removal per step 3 above, press Skip from the bottom menu bar and proceed to the next cylinder. 9. After all 6 cylinders’ fields are filled out, continue with Check selected from the bottom menu bar. 10. Defective or “unreadable” injectors are going to be marked “Replace” (red field). Use P/N 13 53 7 585 261 for the replacement. Injectors identified as “OK” (green field) should NOT be replaced, but they should be reinstalled into corresponding cylinders after replacement of the PTFE Sealing ring (P/N 13 53 7 584 315) and decoupling element (P/N13 53 7 564 751), following REP 13 53 310. 11. After data matrix determination is completed, store the data by pressing “End (save data)”, selected from the bottom menu bar. 12. Obtain the replacement injectors (P/N 13 53 7 585 261) from your parts department and register them back into the database. Press the “Replace defective injectors” button from the bottom menu bar and scan each new injector into the corresponding cylinder’s field. After all new replacement injectors are registered (the data matrix code of replacement injectors is marked green), select “Save results” from the bottom menu bar. Note: Detailed description of the injectors’ scanning and registering process can be found in DMC Injector Check/Manual Index Check from the ASAP Portal. 13. After installation, the new injectors must be calibrated using ISTA/D Service Functions as per REP13 53 310. Who knows?

I didn't get any software updates. Now that I think about it....is there anyone who ONLY got the pump and that's it....no software...nothing?

You're right. But to even get to the point where they are even using the DMC scanner to check the injectors, the car has to be flagged in the system. Which entails checking the vin via key reader. If it's not flagged for the injectors, according to the TSB...they don't even check the injectors with the DMC scanner. Only if your cars vin is flagged for the injectors....will they then proceed with the "corrective action" which is to check the injectors with the DMC scanner

How do they determine when your engine was produced? And how do they determine if an engine produced on 10-31-08 was or was not installed in a 11/08 build date car?
