Drifting on grass

Hi!

Im fairly new to this site, but i have been lurking around for some time, very nice forum!

My dad has a BMW E91 335D 2008.
I just wanted to know, if it can damage the car by any means, if i do some donuts on fairly long grass?
The field does not contain any rocks, it is fairly flat/even, and without any hazards like trees, fences, you name it. Also, the field is twice the width and length of a runway, so the physical size should not be a problem.
Maximum speed is about 40 Kph or 25 mph

Sorry for bad english, it is not my native!

What can it possible harm?

This is your dad's car? Rest assured, if you're planning on drifting your fathers car, even if it's in the worlds safest location, the laws of nature will ensure that you WILL damage your dads car...

However, to the 12 year old boy in me, it does sound fun...

Don't forget to have the grass topped with asphalt first.

Certainly wouldn't do that in my car.

Drifted my previous car in a parking lot once, punctured a tyre and it near wrecked the driveshaft, won't do that again, big repair bill. Was an E46 328i.

Was incredibly fun though.

That's why he does it with his dad's car. Remember, every sperm is sacred.

Haha you're funny guys. Maybe i'll send a picture of the upcoming fine i'll recieve by doing donut's on a farmers field (joke).

Anyways, what i meant by doing donuts, and drifting a little bit, was not hour long sessions of 4-5K RPM in the field, but just 15-20 minutes of fun. As everyone else would have said "It is for educational purposes" haha, but somehow i mean it. It is fun yeah, but the main reason that i tried it (once), was to feel how a car react when it is out of control, and train in what i can possible do to get in control again.
You could lose control on the street too, even when you drive gently..and that's my point, i wanted to know little bit more of gaining control..

Anyways, the car is obviously not build for doing donuts on a field haha . But i somehow refuse to see what could go wrong by doing low speed drifts on a field with NO hazards..
I can read that you say it is bad for the car, and thanks for the replies! But to be specific, what could go wrong?
Could the driveshaft really get a failure, when it is very slippery grass? It is like driving on ice lol..

Thanks in advance :-)

This sounds like a truly terrible idea.
You sound very inexperienced. (Perhaps this is just the language barrier)

People in the thread are being a little sarcastic, and almost egging you on.
So to avoid doing something stupid, lets put it in plain English:

Do NOT do this in your dads car.

If you want to learn more about car control and practice recovering, by all means.
However do so with an instructor who knows what they are doing, or if you simply must learn by trial and error do so in your OWN car. That way when you crash it or cause damage, its yours to fix.

Lastly, I am guessing you haven't asked your dad have you?

Be careful there's no chance of the car digging in and flipping or damaging the suspension. Don't go too fast.

Dude, get your own car and wreck it, not your Dad's.

And one thing, the car's undercarriage will be full of grass and debris, so unless you will go thoroughly clean it afterwards, you'll get busted...

And unless the area you are talking about is a football (soccer) pitch it's gonna have a rock or hole or two to find your Dad's car.

Have fun...

Here's some extra motivation for you:

In all seriousness and laughs aside, I wouldn't recommend doing what you're inquiring about. But hey.. some people need to learn their own way.. just be safe tho.

I am so torn...........the perpetual kid in my says, 'man thats going to be so much fun' but the Dad in me says ' I will kick your ass if you TOUCH my car at your irresponsible age'.

Reminds me of when I stole my parents Ford LTD and went boon docking in the New Mexico desert, that didn't end well.

As long as you double and then triple check the turf and make sure there are no holes, rocks or other hazards you shouldn't hurt anything.

Unless your Dad finds out so be thorough when you clean it up. Dads are pretty good at sniffing out things their kids have done. I once smelled a push broom and that's how I discovered my daughter held a kegger at our house while my wife and I were out of town.

Best thread ever.
