depends what your definition of speed is...
Quote:
So what’s the best way to determine a car’s speed? Horsepower and weight: the lower the ratio of power to curb weight, the faster the car, experts say. Based on that metric, researchers at Edmunds.com helped us determine the fastest cars under $50,000.

Because stock it's just mediocre. Hell the Lexus IS350 is faster. Not to mention, I don't think they consider the 335i under $50,000.

It's just mistitled. It's actually "10 Cars I wouldn't want to buy under $50,000". Except the 370 Nismo, I'd get that one, but not for a daily driver.

The Lexus is slower in the 1/4 mile.

Their definition of "fast" is computed on advertised horsepower divided by weight. That's all. Moronic article IMHO.

I think it's the price of the 335i that's why it did not make it on the list, even my evo x did not make it on the list, they based it on power to weight ratio..meaning they measured fast on paper, not actually driving them.

If you read most of the Yahoo car articles, the "As Driven / As Tested" price is always with options. This being said, the 335i would more than likely be over the "As Driven" mark of 50k anyway. I didn't compare the prices of the cars mentioned though, so in this case it may not apply and they just used base MSRP, but they usually don't.

Yea you are right, but I was just trying to make the point the 335i is just not that fast of a car stock. 335i 13.4 sec / IS350 13.5 according to a MotorTrend test.

Well shit, if they are strictly doing a power to weight ratio the Mazda Miata MX5 (2500 lbs / 200 hp)should be on there, not to mention it's probably the "fastest" car around any track under $50k

Why is it not on there? Simple math. 335i has 300 hp. #10 was STi with 300 hp. and it cost's 36,000. For starting at $42,000 and delivering the same 300 hp as a cheaper car, it obviously won't make it. Especially since cars in the $42,000 range are making 100-180 more HP than the 335i. Simple.

Yahoo is the National Enquirer of the news world anyway. They're more concerned about getting clicks than providing news.

335i/is is about 3600 lbs.
3600/300 = 12
So all have a batter power to weight ratio.
This means nothing if your power band is nothing more than a spike and you don't get any of you max power and or torque down low. We don't know the gearing, etc.

Now to be objective.

Dodge/Chrysler has a bunch of SRT8 cars in the lineup. They are all effectively the same car. Yes different body but the drivetrain the same along with the platform.
Big and heavy, but fun.

There are two mustangs.
There are two Z derivatives, the 370 and the Infinity.

So there are 6 actual platforms represented here. Mostly fun cars, but would I trade one for a 335? Maybe the 300 or the Charger. I need 4 doors and 5 seats.

But without a road test, none of it matters.

mediocre to beat 8 out of 10 cars listed there

is350 is by no means faster

ur price point is very true though, if they would choose a base 335 it would be in that range
