I would say it wasn't worth my drive coz they busted a module on my car (probably by spraying too much in the rear window / parcel shelf area), even though warranty took care of it. Also, the back window came out looking like shit (coz of the stupid dot matrix), and had quite a few dust specks embedded between the glass and the film.

I recommend going to VEM Solar Solutions in New Bedford to get the Huper Optik tint.
Kev whats the difference between VEM SS in New Bedford and SS in Bedford where I got my car done? Are they the same shop with diff locations?

I'm starting to wonder if they are one and the same, but it doesn't seem like it.

I want to get my windows tinted (to around 35%) and not sure how I should do it or where I should get it done. Suggestions? I am willing to drive and pay a little extra to get it done right. This dot matrix talk is worrying me.

Some people get the dot matrix covered with vinyl, but I just had them put the tint over it even though it was not perfect. You can also tell them to tint up to the dot matrix and then stop. I didn't really care that much. I went to Tint-King in Billerica. Brian there is mad cool and they did a great job. I installed GeoShield on my car and it looks awesome. Looks better than the Llumar tint that I used on my last 3 cars.

So it looks like I have a few options; Solar Solutions (Bedford) may or may not sand down the dot matrix (conflicting posts). Then Luxury Details (Framingham) will sand down the dot matrix. I just don't know the brand tint they use. Tint-King in Billerica is good but they won't sand down the dot matrix. They use GeoShield which is a ceramic tint, and what I want.. Then theres Sonny's in Saugus that has good reviews, but I don't know how they handle the dot matrix or what tint they use.

i got my geoshield at tint king and have always been a fan of them. it takes a while for the dot matrix rea to completely dry and the geoshield is pretty thick film. but that being said i think they did a great job on mine.

this is before it dried, one day after i got it done. looks better now.

the darker the film and the thickr it is, the more the dot matrix will show. but as far as the heat reducing capabilities of geoshield, its great and it looks good. i would highly reccomend the geoshield.

When I called Luxury Details, Matt says he uses Suntek.

I did not have to deal with the Dot Matrix. But I can say that Solar did an awesome job, and offered me the lowest price.

Good luck with the Matrix. Let us know how it goes.

I had Suntek on my g35, it's pretty good stuff. Slight brownish hue to it though.

I noticed it, too... the brownish hue is visible when it's very bright outside, and it looks really ugly. In general, I don't like it.

UPDATE:
It's been almost a month since the tint was installed at Solar Solutions, and it still sucks. The rear tint over the matrix dots looks horrible. Some parts stuck to the dots, and some didn't, so now it looks like spotty all over the top of the windshield (almost like a leopard).

I called Danielle at Solar Solutions this morning, and she tried giving me the run-around. She said they "don't ever re-do rear tint because of the matrix dots." What BS... They promise full satisfaction, then go back on that promise. I had to put my foot down JUST to get an appt for them to "look at it and see what can be done." I mean, I wouldn't mind if the tint either all STUCK to the matrix dots, or all DIDN'T STICK, but the patching is just hideous.

Overall, I'm very unhappy with Solar Solutions. If they can't fix this next monday (the 13th), then I'm going to dispute the charges with my credit card and go somewhere else.

+/-1

You can tweak it by covering it with a piece of vinyl or you can try shaving down the dots and tint over it. Charles (makots) had the dots shaved down and it looks pretty good to me.

two words..... tint king. he wont shave the dots, but he can put vinyl underlay if you want. mine came out pretty good without either of those two things done. imho no matter what you do the dot matrix will always be an issue. its not just our cars there are a bunch of cars that have the dot matrix and they all look the same. also remember that if you want a ceramic film they tend to be thicker than other ones and that makes the dot matrix look worse as well. if you go to tint king make sure brian does the work, hes the owner.

He or one of his boys did mine too. I am ok with it because Brian mentioned to me ahead of time that it will not look perfect.
