He regrets getting it as it's nowhere near as luxurious as the Mercedes. He tested the RT and he thought it was slow compared to his camaro SS ( which is what he traded)

I have tested the challenger RT last month and I can confirm that the car felt heavy and slow for a muscle car.
I don't really want a luxury car. I bought the BMW because it was really fun to drive and looked good. As long as I'm comfortable when I'm sitting in it I'm happy. I have driven a couple new Mercedes-Benz vehicles and they are extremely nice and luxurious but its just not high on my priority list.

OP,

If the transmission is slipping and acting as poorly as you describe, it's clearly not happy and driving it around can and probably already has done other damage. If you tried selling the car as is, you will likely get peanuts. I would take the car to a transmission specialist and let them look at it and get their opinion. It's a GM transmission built in France. You may find getting a second hand or rebuilt transmission will cost less then the sales tax on the "other vehicle". We won't even talk about the Insurance differences.

Do some research and look at actual costs for swapping out the transmission vs. swapping cars considering your car will be near worthless without a working transmission.

Then again, you could get lucky and find that you have a bad servo or seal in the transmission. Unless abused, your mileage is really too low for a the gearbox to experience failed clutches or pumps.

Have you checked for faults stored in the transmission TCU? Use BMW tools, not those worthless code readers from an auto parts store.

I have INPA and a DCAN cable. I'll check after work today and see. What's that module's name on INPA? Oh and carmax will buy anything. Bought my Acura for 8 grand with 99,000 miles. It passed their "inspection" with flying colors.

Your problem is the torque converter,a well known problem of GM transmission. New one is crazy expensive but you can find a good used one for 150-200usd.

so in your professional opinion, a jerky, slipping transmission that has fresh new fluid in it is a sign of a healthy operating transmission? please tell us more you angry child.

you own an e9x vehicle, would you trade it in for a Dodge?

all you need to do is relax a little-bit and use your head. no one is speaking nonsense but you. you are the only person on this whole thread that had any problem with what i said, I wonder why?

Seems possible for the OP to get his car running without a whole bunch of pain.

I've read this before, what goes bad in them?

A really long time ago I blew out a torque converter on a GM product but that was an abuse problem. 5.7 liter v8 tied to a 4 cylinder Vega converter. Poor mans high stall speed converter. Fun while it lasted.

St8-6ix, aka, German straight-6, there are many reasons why you have been banned multiple times.

Hard to believe this hasn't taught you anything. You come back with the same stuff every time. That's strange and sad.

Would a bad TC trigger any fault codes?

BMW's are more expensive than other mass produced car to repair but the payoff of how the car feels and looks is worth it. If you can do your own blah blah blah you know the story.

Wait till you see all the BS that fails on rattle can american cars. Ya the parts are cheap but you will need to buy in bulk.

Have fun with whatever you choose you are young and have plenty of lessons to learn you just need to pay attention when they happen.

A bad TC will not trigger any error,a bad solenoid will do..so if you scan your egs ecu and find some errors could be a transmission shift solenoid but with GM gearbox most of the time is TC

The weak part is a clutch assembly inside the TC and few needle bearings. TC control the quantity of oil inside the gearbox and that's why is important to have it in a good shape.

Alright. I scanned the codes with INPA and this is what I got. No warning lights on the dash at all.

If the TC controls fluid flow, could it of starved the transmission components and caused damage to them too?

When these symptoms arise, are you getting an ABS/DSC/traction lights?
Well actually last week I pulled the wrong fuse when I was trying to hardwire a dashcam and I got those lights as soon as I started the car. Put the fuse back and they disappeared. So it's probably from that. I have never had any DSC or ABS problems with the car before.

Was the transmission acting this bad before it had the fluid swapped?

Yes it was. I had the fluid changed to try and fix it. I pulled out into traffic this morning and I didn't see a car that didn't have their lights on. (Nissan Versa driver of course) I then floored it without pressing the kickdown button and my car upshifted at 3,000 RPM and bogged. First time its ever done that.

I have a CarMax appointment on Friday to see what they'll offer me for the car... I also dropped the idea of a Charger. I test drove one and I had forgotten how much Chrysler products suck. Currently looking into a 2015 Mustang 5.0 with a 6MT

With it not driving, you'll be lucky to get $3500.
