Cool Snowflake Triangle

I am new to BMW. Recently purchased 2012 E90 xdrive. When I turn push on the ignition, a triangle lights up with a snowflake in center. This will occassionally show up when I first start driving, no ice nearby. It stys on for 2-5 seconds. I cannot find the icon in the owners man. The dealership told me its for slippage on ice. Any ideas would be appreciated

Means it is below 41 degrees F outside temperature. Possible ice.

Means it's cold lol. Plays the little gong too right? At first I thought you were talking about a triangle with an arrow around it. That means traction control is kicking in and you're slipping in the rear.

It's time to turn the heated seats on. You could try and code the warning signal to activate the heated seats. This will get the coder's out there something to think about!

From the '07 online manual:

"Outside temperature warning
When the displayed temperature sinks to
approx. +37oF/+3oC, a signal sounds and a
warning lamp lights up. There is an increased
risk of black ice."

The warning lamp is the snowflake.

I just looked in the 2012 owner's manual. The reason you couldn't find the symbol is because they put the wrong symbol in the picture!

I appreciate the help. It is interesting that the dealer could not answer that?! This is the same dealer that told me I could put regular fuel.

I hate that thing. Ends up scaring me half the time it goes off - making me think something is wrong, until I look down and see that snowflake.

<Sigh> 3 degrees C isn't even that cold.

Cold enough that the road a foot below the sensor could be icy.

Since this snow year has sucked, when it comes on in my car is just my car effing with me. I mean two effing years in a row I put my blizzaks just to get the middle finger by Mother Nature. I will take my snow tires off and put in my 19s just to have a blizzard!!

In my experience, the only way a road is icy at 3C is if it was previously colder and snowed.

And even if that were the case, I sure don't need the car to tell me it is icy out.

I still think it's a warning for an in-coming Stargate worm hole.

I watch too much TV.

Yeah, but your car doesn't know if it's snowed or someone wet the road and it froze or anything. It is just trying to be helpful. VW's have been doing the same thing for a decade now. Sure, it causes you to panic for a second because you think something is wrong, but then realize that it's just a little chilly.
