Question Apple iphone 3g on bluetooth problems

recently while using my iphone 3g on my 2009 320d's bluetooth connetion, whenever on the phone people would complain how they cannot hear me. Naturally i asumed this problem could be the cars microphone but when i tried a sony ericson k800i on the system, people heard me just fine. Is this normal or is the car actualy broken?! Thanks!

Mic gain over BT is not adjustable on the phone.

To the OP: The fact that other phones work fine suggests that the car can not be at fault here - it is the phone. iPhones are notoriously bad with BT.

Uh. Use the phone in the car. While on the phone use the volume up/down buttons. That will turn up/down your bluetooth volume. Thus vadim, you are wrong.

I have exactly the same problem! Went from Nokia N95 to iPhone 3G and now people are complaining they can't hear me, even though the volume is to the max?

Any ideas?

Agreed. The iphone volume buttons control different volume levels depending on the state of the phone. When no call or music, they control ringer volume; when listening thru headphone, they control headphone volume, etc.

When you are on a call through Bluetooth the iphone volume buttons control bluetooth volume. This is what you want to adjust. Make a call and while you're on the call start adjusting the iphone (NOT the car) volume buttons. You will see on the iphone screen the bluetooth volume level setting.

I heard somewhere that you should turn the volume DOWN in order to improve quality. I guess the idea is that speakers don't feed into the mic

turning mine down caused all kinds of ugliness. the solution was to max out the volume. problem solved.

I have exactly the same problem, people on the other end complain they don't hear me, since I have the iPhone 3G. Before, when calling from my Nokia, people hardly could tell I was talking to them from the handsfree carkit.
I wil try to adjust bluetooth volume too!

I've also been having problems with my iPhone 3G in my 2009 E90 with Bluetooth. But, my problems are intermittent.

Yesterday I called someone, and the call sounded fine. Then I hung up and called someone else, and although I could hear them, they could not hear me at all. This is with the E90 Bluetooth.

Last week I was using the 3G iPhone in another car with a Jawbone bluetooth headset, and I had the same exact issue. Sometimes the call sounded fine for both parties, but on other calls I could hear fine but the other party could not hear me at all.

I've sometimes even had this issue with the iPhone 3G itself - i.e. even with no bluetooth and just using the handset, sometimes I can hear but the other person cannot hear me.

So, in my opinion this is an iPhone 3G / AT&T issue, and nothing to do with the car.

I have not tried another model of phone.

I, too, have bluetooth issues with my iPhone 3GS. But I have the exact opposite problem of those mentioned here. The other end can here me as though I'm not even on seaker phone, but I can't hear them at all!! This occurs roughly 1/2 of the time.

And forget Voice Commands... I tried it twice and both times the radio froze on me completely. Like blue screen of death style. I had to turn the car off/on to get any buttons to respond.

From my searching, this sounds like a 3G/3GS issue and not the car.

Any insight?

Try adjusting the bluetooth volume adjustment on the PHONE itself (on the 3G, at least -- I don't have a GS). When you are on a call, adjust the volume buttons (again not the BMW volume knob). You'll notice that the volume indicator will say Bluetooth which is different from the headphone or speaker volume on the phone.

I have a little different variation of this problem with my iPhone 3GS. People keep telling me that I fade out right before I end my sentence. It's annoying. I've raised the Bluetooth volume on my iPhone and still nothing. Anyone have this problem too?

I didn't have this problem with my Blackjack.
