Morning chaps,

I was under the impression that if I had the BMW Extended Warranty on my car I had to take the car to a stealer for my servicing otherwise it would void the warranty. I know this is a 'touchy' subject as I wouldn't want to be left hanging should I ever need to use said warranty.

After speaking to a chap from the extended warranty, he confirmed that I can take my car to an indy as long as they use genuine BMW parts. This is fine with me as it should save a couple of ££'s..

Would you be happy to send your car to an indy rather than a stealer?

Can anyone recommend a good indy around the Kingston/Surrey area?

I had a look at the terms and conditions on my warranty and it states main dealer servicing only. I think if pushed BMW warranty would have to honour the warranty if serviced using genuine parts and to the service schedule by an indy. However I wonder how helpful the main dealer would be with the warranty claim if not serviced with them

If you are talking about the BMW (Mondial) extended warranty then yes you can take it outside main dealer as long as they use genuine parts and VAT reg and confirm to the service schedule.

whether you want to use main dealer or other it is up to you. I would use my independant purely because he knows what he is talking about and his prices are half what main dealer

Main dealer - in some cases get a apprentice to do the serivicing (not slating apprentices we all got to start somewhere)

Independant - someone who has worked for BMW for x anmount of years and decided to go alone with the expereince gained

Thanks for the replies guys.

The car has been booked in to the stealers and I'm supplying my own oil to save a couple of pennies. Personally I want to keep the stealer stamps in the book and should I ever have to claim on the warranty, there will be nothing to question.

I will look to see if I can find a decent independent in the area should I have any little bits required between the main services.
