Well, lets break it down for you so its easier for you to believe.

Unhook wire inside car = Disturbance of electrical connection, codes stored in ECU to let technician know where trouble is.

BB inside vacuum tube = Electrical connection still there, doesnt know theres supposed to be a butterfly moving if it thinks theres no vacuum loss. No codes stored.

Hows that?

What would happen if you removed the vacuum but did not plug it? My dumbass mechanic cut the hose when putting on some new exhaust tips and didn't reconnect it to anything. As a result my turbo's shut down under heavy load and i get a CEL. Guess it wouldn't hurt to plug it up and try it out?

You definitely don't want a leak that large in the vacuum system. Plug the hose.

I just pulled the plug behind the left taillight. Soooo much easier, and much more easily undone imo.

Just pop off the cover inside the trunk behind the left taillight, look for the plug that has a metal push ring on it, push it in, and pull the plug off. Voila! Better low rev sound! I love it.

Btw, if a dealer says something about it, I'll just claim that it was on the fault of the manufacturing process.

Not true at all. Clearly not the case given that the flap is not ONLY closed when the car is starting cold. This thread is amazingly long due to people not understanding how basic this is. The flap work via vaccuum. More vaccuum from a cold engine = normally shut. There is also enough vacuum when piddling around or at lower RPMs that the flap would normally not be wide open...hence the golf tee mod will result in more sound waves exiting the left tip, uninhibited, in these driving contitions too...not just cold start.

^^^ ummm, no.

If there's enough vacuum at idle to work your power brakes, then there's enough to work your exhaust flap.

The flap is electronically controlled. That's what the solenoid in the trunk is for.

However you're right in that it's not just a cold start thing. The flap is normally closed at idle, highway cruising, putting around, etc. It's open for WOT and who knows when else.

Thats why you put grease or some type of lubricant on the BB. Makes it easier to put in an remove when you want to.

Anyone with a downpipe doing a golf tee mod? Just curious how the exhaust sounds compare without a downpipe.
