I wonder how long it will take for BMW to start putting this version into new vehicles?

Lets hope immediately. I have a car that went into production this week. If they don't deliver it with the latest DVD I am going to def have some words with them. I won't settle for last years now that there is a newer one out, and it does have some updates for my area as well!

Do you think if your car is a 2008 model and you got the 2007.2 Nav disk, will they provide you with the 2008 disk. It would only be fair.

I am in Canada and p/u my car in April.

I asked my CA, we'll see what he says. I need the 2008 since my city and living area is finally in there. They can keep the old one, it is a waste for me.

I have the 2008-1 EU version with Speed Cams. Recently I received a Progman update and now my speedcams doesn't work anymore.

I would ask if he could check if the new arriving cars have the 2008-1 DVD and if you could make a copy of it and give it back. You could then share by seeding it to all of us...

If you didnt get 2008, you should complain again. If they won't give it to you, ask them what the number for BMW NA is to complain. I'm 85% sure (I know, thats not saying much!) that the dealer hands out the DVDs. They just want to get rid of their older DVDs first...

From other threads I have read it appears that BMW are dumping NAVTEQ and I don't blame them. The Nav updates suck. I live in Houston and in an area that have undergone major changes......three years ago. I have the 2007.2 disc and none of the changes are on the disc. I use the system to navigate to the office and it tells me to turn left (going completely out of the way) to get to the street the office is on, when the office is the next block down on the right. I hope we can get an update, but it doesn't help if it is crap and incorrect.

What are they switching to?

Not that I would expect this to make any difference to those of us who already have navteq-based systems... short of a software upgrade, anyway.

Oh well... probably one more reason on the list for me to consider a 2009 when my lease is up.

If they switch to another map company, would it require any iDrive program changes on BMW's part? In other words, I wonder if we will be able to slap another company's map DVD in our cars and run with it?

I once called Navteq and discussed with them when Poland would be available. I got the impression that Navteq sells BMW the maps and they put them into the DVD. For BMWs with a CD based system (earlier BMWs?) I got the impression that Navteq sells the actual CD.

If this is true, seems the current system would continue to work, only the map data source would be different.

The 2008-1 US nav DVD left NAVTEQ yesterday. No idea how long it will take to make it into vehicles.
