I did...

Also...as you can see, this picture came out a little grainy. Most of my other night shots were clear and detailed...should I have increased the ISO on this shot?

Actually looks like I get a little better results opening the raw and selecting the Tungsten lighting. Seems to take much of the orange hue away.

Still have the grain in the picture though...

Some shots around the hotel with the new 85mm f1.8. I'm happy with it.

We ate here tonight. Very good food, but a little too "intimate." Typical for NYC, I guess. Not the sharpest shot, but not bad for a monopod shot after drinks and wine and dinner. ISO 200 f1.8 1/10

Steam vent - ISO 200 f1.8 1/5

The beginning of the Times Square area. You can see from the 100% crop that there is no sharpness issue with this lens. Think I'll be keeping it. ISO 200 f2.8 1/60

100% crop

I still need way more practice with night shots.

I assume you are placing the camera on objects and not hauling around a tripod to dinner with you.

Those were taken right near our hotel, so I just came back from dinner and grabbed the camera and my monopod.

This is the best I could do on it... unfortunately you are way out of focus on the car.

don't be afraid to bump the ISO up to 400, that camera will take it. It may not look as good as 200, but you're on photoshop enough you should be able to pull any grain with a filter or something pretty easily

I know Dave uses DxO's high ISO noise reduction and his shots turn out great (i've played with this a couple times, but not to the same extent)

you'll be able to double your shutter speed, which will help a lot for you with your monopod.

Results are looking good from the 1.8 I`m a bit jealous, it`s the last lens i have on my list of "must have lenses"

he gave you the link to the raw file.
I clicked the link to grab the file, but it just brings up a tiny picture in quicktime player embedded in the internet browser.

how did you download it? or is it a Mac computer trick?

I didn't see what body you're shooting with, but crank up the ISO for shots like these. It will allow you to use a faster shutter speed which will reduce image blur. Nice shots, though. I'd like to try out the 85/1.8.

He shoots a T1i. He should be able to pull off a 400ISO without sacrificing quality too badly.
I used to run one of those, the noise was borderlined after 400, but it all comes down to what you think is acceptable or not too.
